2010 Panamera 4S Engine Failure
I am posting this to add yet another data point.
2010 4S @ 74,000 miles, second owner. I have owned this Panamera 1 year.
No prior issues with the car, perfect performance. No unusual oil or fuel consumption, always maintained 'by the book'.
Following a 20 minute drive running between 55-70 mph, I sat in the car, engine idling, while my wife ran a quick errand in the bank. Panamera began making a very subtle "rubbing noise" while idling, almost as if a belt were softly "chirping", but extremely difficult to hear.
Wife finished her errand, we pulled away, drove 2 blocks at about 10-30 mph, normal performance, when engine made a loud THUMP, immediately began running extremely rough, every light on the dash lit up, sport mode failure, PASM failure, check engine light flashing, and then right as I pulled over and shut it off I got a Reduced Engine Power Mode light as well. The car was towed to the dealer, and I was informed today that the camshaft had broken and the engine was grenaded basically.
Parts are on the way from Germany.
I've since done some very cursory research on this, and it looks like this is a failure pattern experienced by other Panamera owners. I read several incidents where it happened at highway speed and resulted in some hazardous sudden shut-downs very similar to mine. In many of the reports, as in my case, there was no prior warning, just a catastrophic failure.
Be warned !

My thoughts exactly. Fortunately I also have the remainder of the CPO 2 yr/100,000 warranty with this Panamera.
This was my favorite car, ever. Hope they are able to get her back on the road.

I spoke to Sunset Porsche in Beaverton about the recall. I'm in the final stages of buying a 2012 Panamera Turbo. They told me if there were any issues as a result of the camshaft bolts failing that it would be covered with no out-of-pocket expense.

Happy ending to the story,
received my 2010 Panamera 4S back from the dealer yesterday, all repairs completed, recall performed. She runs wonderfully.

I think my 2010 PTT had this recall item addressed by the previous owner and the camshaft bolts appear to be the newer design. Does this mean I'm out of the woods, or is my car still susceptible to this catastrophic failure? I don't have a CPO.
