Default Update

It was only about 30 degrees this morning when the ICE kicked in while in EV mode. And I had a good 15 miles of range left when it came on. It would run for a mile like that, and then back to EV mode. Happened about 3 times on my 15 mile round trip.

Update: I did a 11 mile round trip later in the day and stayed in EV mode the entire time. Started out with 19 miles of range. Temp was in upper 30’s. Avg speed 38mph. Only real difference from earlier run was that it had less turns and very little elevation changes. I got into the throttle, pushing it to near max and it stayed in EV mode. Very pleasing result. I did drop 3 miles in range in the first mile of driving, but that settled down right away.

It is like below 0°C here in Austria and only on Saturday I managed to get 41km e-reach with the heater turned off (was an experiment + i started off with a warm car in the garage). With heater on, I only manage 31 km. The numbers are not perfect but one can live with them.

I have noticed that when it is cold (i.e. near 0), if you have lights + heater and a hill, then the ICE will often come on for the warm-up 5 mins, especially if you give it a little too much right foot. Makes sense that if there is a substantial drain on the battery - that does not like to be cold - that the ICE comes on.

and don't forget - once the ICE comes on (for whatever reason), it stays on till the engine is warm (approximately 85°C).

Louver- I just read your post re: programming the HomeLink garage door button your the Pan 4 E Hybrid. I've spent about 30 mins trying to do mine...to no success. I'm going to try your method next (i.e. don't use the remote and just go directly to the motor on the ceiling and press the "learn" button. My question is...what specifically did you do inside the car? Do you have to go into the PCM menu to pre set up any option in the menu? Or did you simply press the learn button on the overhead and then go back inside your car and press the "I" on the ceiling of the car? Thx!!

I have tried this many times - it just doesn't recognise the signal from a remote.

Given we didn't install one at home, I have never bothered to follow-up.

In order to maximize the fuel/electric efficiency, when using the auto hybrid mode, does it matter if we set the destination in the GPS or not? Would the car be smart enough to look at the entire route to determine when to use ICE or electric?

Unfortunately I won't be able to give you a definitive answer. It was months ago, and my wife was actually in the car while I was on the ladder. We first tried the prescribed method of using the remote control clicker before we then tried the learn button on the ceiling. So I cannot give the complete and exact sequence that we followed in the car. But I THINK we pressed the learn button in the garage and then used only the "I" button on the ceiling of the car without going through the PCM. But this could be wrong. Sorry not to be more help.

This makes complete sense to me about the engine warming up. I was wondering about wear and tear on the ICE if it never had the chance to reach operating temperature.

KW - no, the system is not that smart unfortunately! I have alternated between Hybrid/Charge on long journeys or pure electric then charge and I suspect the mpg between the two driving styles averages out when travelling 150 miles plus on the motorway. Apparently some battery conditioning like this is no bad thing (?).

Default Folding door mirrors

I’m wondering if anyone out there is having the same issue I am with my door mirrors not folding in when I lock the doors to the car. I’ve gone into the car menu and then hit vehicle settings and then go to the locking option and I see the option for folding mirrors when locking ...and I checked that box. but when I leave the car and lock it up the mirrors do not fold in. And when I come back to the car and turn it back on that box that I checked is now unchecked. Weird.

have you saved your settings once you ticked the checkbox (by pressing the set key and then the key button)?

I too have had this problem. And this isn't something that you should have to put into memory.

well clearly it is a setting that gets lost between new starts so I do believe it needs to be saved to your key.

Rysed is correct. Once you have all your settings the way you want them (including having the mirrors fold in on locking) you do need to push the Set button and the Key button before you turn off the car.
