New to Porsche: opinion 4 or 4S
Hello all an thanks in advance. I'm buying my first Porsche and am about to pre-order the 2017 Panamera 4 or 4S.
I'm looking for an all wheel drive everyday car (I live in NY) that both me and my wife can drive. I currently drive an Audi A7, which is a little underpowered for me, and want an upgrade. If it were just me driving it, I'd get the 4S, but worried the 4S might be too much car for my wife.
Questions:
1) Do you think the 4S is too much power for the wife?
2) Is the 4 underpowered (like my A7)?
3) Too much power with the 4S to drive in snow (even with snow tires)?
My gut tells me to get the 4, since I'll never take it on a track and the wife will drive it sometime, but am afraid I'll regret it (especially for re-sale). I'd love your thoughts and thanks in advance.

My wife drives a GTS and it definitely isn't too much power for her. She loves getting on the freeway in sport mode and not having power as the limiting factor of what she can do with the car.

I'm a little biased as I have a 4S on the water right now. Of course, when I ordered it there was no standard 4 model available. As my salesman told me several years ago when I was in a delimma over whether to order a standard 911 or 911S, he said if I ordered a standard 911, I would always be wondering "should I have gotten the S?" and with an S, I would never be wondering what it would be like to have less power. He was right, and I never looked back. As for your wife, I can't really answer, but you might be selling her short. I bet she can handle it!

I was in the market for either , kinda like you. Found a 4 with 8K, miles, full warranty, right price. So I jumped on that as a DD. It s a little less power, but a fantastic highway car. I mean I was winding up country roads way in the triple numbers with no issues. 4 Cruises highway speeds just fine. Now if you want to race light to light then more power would be helpful. The wife can handle a 4S if you go that way. a tame driver like her probably wouldn t know if she was driving an S or non S. Most people wouldn t outdrive the standard Porsche brakes but the 4S has more capability mainly for track. You should drive both even in the older version and decide for yourself. I think you are correct as there is more profit for Porsche on the 4S and for trade in the 4 may be better. Can t go wrong here, LOL

I have ordered the new Panamera 4 here in the UK. I am due to collect it on March 1st! Mine will be the first 4 at my Porsche Centre. I have driven the demo 4S and 4SD. Both great cars, but the 4 is still a 3 litre Porsche V6 that'll do 0-62 in 5.3 seconds! Plenty fast enough and powerful for me (coming from a 991.1 C2). In UK £ sterling the 4S is over £16k extra for just a second off the 0-62 time. In my mind, the 4 is much better value for money and means I am less likely to lose my driving licence! ;-)

No regrets
No worries about too much power with the 4S. My experience with the 4S didn't last long as my obsession with the turbo took over. 8 months later I had a TurboS and haven't looked back. Wish I bought the Turbo to begin with. Snow tires on 4S and Turbo work very well up here in Northeast and are a must as is a CPO.

Very nice too!
I understand that the Turbo S version of the new Panamera may be a hybrid!
