panamera vs 911 in snow
Hey Guys I am looking to buy a used panamera. I live in chicago and need a car that will be able to manage the snow a bit, I have a truck for the real heavy snow But would like a fun car that would be able to manage some of the lighter snow. Im thinking the panamera 4 would be the best.
What I really want is a 911 though is the panamera 4 be that much better in the snow than a 911 4s
please help
any other ideas on a fun awd fast car? I would like to stay in the 50k to 60k price range
thanks guy

Well, assuming both the 911 and the Panamera are AWD (4) versions, there are 2 big differences.
Tires: All-season tires on Panamera are going to be fine in the summer. It will be fun, quick and give you a sports car handling feel. But A/S on the 911 in the summer will be less stable. So you'd probably want to have 2 sets of tires for the 911.
A Panamera with Air Suspension gives you the option to raise the car, so when you have 6" or more of snow, you can raise it and do less plowing. The 911 is going to plow a lot more in deep snow.

Get a 911 4s and a set of winter tires and wheels. If you want a 911, you want a 911.
(edited to note: I did not embed the link on tires. Not sure where that came from.)

Well said and GREAT analogy!!! either should be great with dedicated snow tires in all but the deepest snow (though I've had a lot of fun driving my snow tire equipped rwd '86 911 in snow so deep that the front bumper was directing a fair bit over the hood/windshield/roof).

Have both and both have winter wheel and tire sets. No problem unless snow is deep, in which case use your truck. Don't even think about all season tires if you get a Panamera because they are a big compromise. Also, if/when you get winter compound tires, do not run them too much when the weather warms up in the spring because they wear relatively fast in warmer weather in my experience. You will nto regret what seems to be a lot of extra expense when the roads get icy if you run with winter compound tires. One accident avoided and peace of mind on braking on icy roads will be worth it.
