Received my new PIWIS III

for cars of 2019-2021, sometimes the speed of working with the Chinese 6154 is not enough, even with a normal installation
in 38.2 in development mode, there are features that you will not get in 38.4 or in subsequent versions
all brands except Taycan are present in 38.2
this version in development mode works with all machines until 2021, you only need to have the corresponding new firmware available
the ideal option is 38.2 and 40.0
for example, you can change the vehicle configuration without using PPN only in 38.2 in development mode
in more recent versions, you can only see the list of factory options, you can view the configuration, but you can no longer change it, you will need a PPN to change it

Strange how some versions have development mode and others don't-
I'm still waiting for the VCI from eBay, and it's been the longest waiting for a relatively small package-should take another 4 weeks at least Nothing to do with that Suez canal Ever Given shipping constipation
The eBay vendor got greedy, and as posted before I'm pretty sure the same vendor sells it cheaper at aliexpress:

Hi paul-home is this the vendor you got your VCI from? I should have gone that route, cheaper and probably express shipping

But did it take a month to be delivered? I saw that he takes PayPal on that site but since eBay supposedly has good protection I didn't try that site-but it's still cheaper there
Looks like a lot of people buying the VCI, and he might be the last vendor that has them. Unless someone gets the newer ones working, which I'm sure will start happening at some point.

And from Belauto's post, one can see that some versions have Development Mode, and others "Full Development Mode"

I posted on the 997 Piwis page which isn't as active as this one, about my ordeal with a small part that failed a few months ago. My Durametric was worthless and I did investigating on my own to find the cause-I ended up testing the control-valve the old fashioned way, using a 12 volt supply which proved it was dead.
Here's the post, it might interest some members since a lot of 991 cars had to have all 8 control-valves replaced under warranty. It's also used extensively in many other cars-many Porsche models, VW, Audi, Volvo, etc
>>I just had a surprise malfunction with a control-valve on my 2011 GT3. It controls the disc valve which opens and closes depending on ambient temperature/cold start. I made a thread detailing it. The Getrag transmission has it's own cooling system and engine coolant goes through it. With a cold engine the disc valve prevents flow until the engine reaches normal/optimum temperature, then opens to allow coolant to flow through. The 12V control-valve enables and prevents vacuum from activating the disc valve's diaphragm.
To diagnose this I spent days reading posts from various sites. There was a PCNA bulletin describing disc valve failure(they're cheap, $17 from certain vendors and the valve is a relic from the 928 and also used on Mercedes cars)
So my worthless Durametric detected nothing-the only sign something was wrong was a CEL. No fault codes on Durametric.
Once I dove under the car to see if the disc valve was ok, I took out the control-valve and could immediately see green corrosion on the terminals. Connected my Ctek as 12V power source and the valve was dead. Took out another control-valve from the engine bay(car has 6 I believe, 991s have 8)
With the 12V touching the terminals you can hear the valve click
Got a new valve from P dealer with a discount which was still $20 more than online, but I didn't want the shipping and waiting.
I bet the Launch X431 Torque or Turbo or Piwis would have identified the dead control-valve from the other 5.
But it was sure satisfying to test it with a 12V source and see it was really dead. Car is now warming up to normal temp like it should. With the dead valve it was taking 15 or maybe 20 minutes to reach temp since the disc valve was allowing coolant through the transmission cooler when it's not supposed to.
Arrow points to the disc valve, and here's the control-valve:
Apparently the 991 cars have a newer control-valve with more failures and replacement under warranty, sometimes all 8 of them.
Here's my detailed thread:

the VCX from Belauto also requires setting the date back to 2020.. but he does not tell you that before you order...

If you have VAS 5054a you an link it to the PIWIS II that's been floating around the Internet. It's a hack to update the driver in an xml file and then they work together so it's zero dollars if you have vmware and existing dongle.

I bought a clone of the 6154 head from them, they have both options, but the stitched heads require a rollback of the date, such a head will work without problems, another firmware with licenses until 2030 does not guarantee that the head will not lose licenses, but you can buy from them with licenses up to 2030, they warn that it can be upgraded, so there is a risk when used with Piwis 3. Now I bought the original PT3G from them, I'm happy

Earlier posts mentioned the authentic ones, part number 000-721-990-00-411 and 000-721-990-00-412
What happens if you get the 000-721-990-00-411 one, does it pair up as-is if you buy it?

prices for heads without a discount, but the price is good, especially for PT3G V2

they have versions under 6154, in which they have saved the settings for the original head, this is exactly version 40 and their double version, about the other versions it is better to ask them a question, but I am sure that they can configure any version remotely for the orginal head
