Received my new PIWIS III
#1561
anyone with a PIWIS + 991.1 / 981 willing to do a drive link test? (engine off, ignition on..)
It's under DME --> Drive Link Tests --> Camshaft adjustment bank 1 and bank 2.
When you hit execute to 100%, do you hear the solenoid make a sound?
I have to do 100, 0, 100, 0....on and off for 10 times before I hear it. I am wondering if this is normal..

I guess you hear something different.
As I know you can evaluate working cam adjustment while engine is running (i.e. observing angle change while executing the function).
BTW, why do you do this?

Trying to chase down the infamous 991 stumble/stutter in the 2-3K rpm range under moderate load.
Thinking it has something to do with the Variocam system.
I had these solenoids changed and it didn't make a diff.
I've also noticed the camshaft adjustment angle values changes constantly on one bank (top right) while it's more steady on the other bank (bottom)

Ok, you mean stumble/stutter in the drive train while driving?
I wonder why PIWIS says with engine off, since they need oil pressure?!
What are the min / max angles and did you monitor set or actual values, i.e. is there a feedback signal?
If I see the scale correctly, the angels for both cams at idle "change" in the range < 1°, which looks for my like "signal round offs" and means no change effectively...

A Pulse Width Modulated ground signal means that the DME is rapidly opening and closing the ground circuit, in this case of a 2 pin solenoid, one side is 12Volt+ the other goes to ground but the ground is switched through the DME.
I can simulate the test with a battery when the solenoid is out of the car. It responds immediately.
In the car, it varies...some times it takes 12 tries...other times it takes 8-9...i wonder if it's a DME issue or a wiring issue..solenoids are new!
I don't want to hijack the PIWIS thread but I've been posting my findings in this one:

Hi @Vegas1 did that process work?
I managed to install it and make it work
My question is do i need to do all of these to put it to engineere mode ? can developer mode do coding ?
This Offset is hard
1. Find the file: D:\PiwisApps\PIDT\PIDT\Pidt\plugins\de.dsa.pidt.datatype.jar and copy it to your desktop to save it to change.
2. Open it with WinRAR and then search in the WinRAR windows the file: \en\dsa\pidt\datatypes\utils\Helper$1.class and drag it to your desktop, after copying it delete it from the archive and leave the WinRAR window open.
3. Open Helper$1.class on your desktop with Winhex and go to Offset 7: 34 -> 32 Offset IB3: 9A -> A7
4. In the still open WinRAR window, withdraw the saved file and click OK. Now close WinRAR.
5. Copy and overwrite the new de.dsa.pidt.datatype.jar file you just created in D:\PiwisApps\PIDT\PIDT\Pidt\plugins.
6. Copy the aftersales.sig file to your desktop and rename it to development.sig Copy this file back to the
Folder.
Aftersale.sig is located located in D:\PiwisApps\PIDT\PIDT\Pidt\workspace and in D:\PiwisApps\PIDT\PIDT_MIG\Pidt\workspace
7. Do exactly the same Method as above with the folder D:\PiwisApps\PIDT\PIDT_MIG\Pidt\plugins\de.dsa.pidt.datatype.jar
To transform it in developer: Settings > Diagnostic Configuration > 981-991 > Mode > Operating Mode E= development, P=Production, V= Aftersales (Regular
PIWIS 3) Other model lines > Mode > Operating mode E= Development, P= Production, V= Aftersales (Regular PIWIS 3)

Really loving this thread! Huge thanks to everyone involved, this is excellent information!
FYI, an eBay seller in Australia has 9 Genuine Porsche PT3G VCIs currently available. Not affiliated, just thought I'd pass along the find. Looking forward to checking one out for myself!

So today I completed my "piwis journey" after successfully coding a fellow rennlister 718 Spyder
Total cost: around $50 for the VCI from AliExpress
My take is that someone that feels comfortable enough programming their (potentially) several hundred thousand dollars car should feel comfortable enough doing the above steps and using Google
I would also like to thank @Treurentner, who shared great information both in this thread and on other forums.
Total cost: around $50 for the VCI from AliExpress
- I got a 4-5 year old Lenovo T470 from a friend of mine, it had a large enough SSD, 1080p display (many people have unused old laptops with 1080p display just sitting somewhere. If not, the one I has can easily be found on eBay for less than $100)
- Got one of the Windows 8 PIWIS that is floating around the internet. I used google - anyone can do that. I didn't pay a penny for any of the forums that force you to get a paid subscription to get the download link (search for "40.400 Win 8.1_64 Pbk_full_b1_s1_v1.tib")
- Load the image you downloaded to the SSD using either Acronis or EaseUS - the free versions of both of those software will work
- You probably need to make sure your laptop is set to BIOS and not UEFI
- Follow the popular tutorial on how to use the keygen. For me, it is the first result when searching "piwis keygen" - very simple, explained step by step
- Use your AliExpress VCI ( https://www.aliexpress.us/item/32568...andl_shipto=US )
- That's it, basically

I would like install it too, but the keygen is not available anymore on that link Can anybody send me a working one or share the file?
i would really appreciate it

Sure, I can share the file, provided you share it with others when asked. Send me a PM. Sorry for other guys asking for it in the future. In case @NikeGTS accepts to receive the file along with sharing responsibility, ask him please.

Sorry, I'm totally new on this forum and it looks like I'm blind, but I can't see where is the PM possibility on your profile Can you tell me?
Btw, SHE can share if she gets it and somebody needs it
