Is PAS always active? Or only when cruise is engaged?
Wondering if PAS (Porsche Active Safe) is always active? Or only when cruise control is in use? The description in the manual is not very clear. I have a 2014 PTT, build sheet is below for anyone curious.
I was admittedly a little dismissive of the value of such features over simply keeping your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel. But then my wife's Audi hauled itself to a dead stop from 70 mph when there was a stalled semi with no lights on around the bend. Now I'm rethinking. And also recognize the value of everyone ELSE having active safety features to protect my family when people are inevitably texting and driving.

I had a PAS warning an I rarely use CC, but I feel like it was a situation where I was right up on someone who had braked suddenly. I would expect it to have alterted much sooner.

You know, I went for the brakes quickly, so I'm not sure. That would be interesting to hear: whether the full PAS, including automatic braking, kicks in without ACC. I did get the visual and audible warning, though.
The problem is I can't think of a great way to test this without taking unnecessary risk. Also, the manual (for my 2016, at least) does a poor job explaining this functionality.
