Default RWD Panamera in snow??

Looking at purchasing a 2013 Panamera (rear wheel drive) and am thinking ahead to winter. I don't have a long commute (about a mile) and live in the mid-atlantic area so usually 3-4 snow storms a year. It this a total no-go for snowy / wintry mix days? Or will it manage OK?

If it has summer performance tires on any car, it is not advised.

All-season tires will be better, with the added advantage of the vehicle's weight.

Dedicated snow tires and wheels would work very well. For mid-Atlantic, it is probably not necessary.

Only other consideration is ground clearance with heavy snow accumulation.

Two words. Winter tires. I wouldn't take my 4 out without them.

What he ^^^^ said - a dedicated set of winter wheels and good snow tires are cheap insurance for the occasional snow you might see and you'll have the needed traction to keep you on the road.

Don't take this the wrong way but saving money and owning a Porsche are mutually exclusive. LOL.

For RWD winter driving all seasons will not cut it. You need winter specific tires, and blizzaks in my opinion out perform anything. If youre in an area with very little ice or snow, you might be ok with all seasons.

Even in an AWD car, I personally still like winter tires; however, I'm going to try Pilot sport all seasons this year and see how they do.

I have also considered using uber hahah on bad days. We will see!

I’ve tried all seasons on other cars and they worked fine for cars with AWD. Using all seasons on a rear driver is asking for trouble in my opinion. If there are no hills it might work but why not avoid a bad experience by getting dedicated snows. Winter tires have the added benefit of better traction on icy surface because of the softer rubber. All season tires are sometimes referred to as no season tires because of their compromised design parameters.

The OP was asking about mid-Atlantic states where winter precipitation events are not that severe. I have a set of winter tires purchase for use in New England where it is very beneficial/necessary. Now in northern Delaware, all-season tires would be sufficient for local use. Only one significant snow event last winter for us.

i just sold my 2012 Panamera 4 and have a set of OEM Porsche wheels 19" with Michelin tires mounted. Let me know if you are interested. Tire thread is probably good for 2 more years, but For sure for one more winter.

Thanks for all the great advice. Decided to go with a Panamera 4 instead...will have to see if the all seasons tires cut it this winter.
