Lots of respect (some of it attributable to the 991-3 blow up) but have my doubts that ANYONE on this thread would put one in their garage. For all the pluses, it's just too heavy, she'll need Hoosiers, pads and carbon rotors by the truckload.

Right, but how many people go and buy a car straight from the showroom brand new to be a track only car. You almost always have to have something that draws you to the car initially as a personal vehicle. In fact most people still drive their track car on the street, which means the car must likable on the street and in the garage as well, making the entire package important.
Porsche is pushing a very core group of people away. I guess my point is, they will have a much easier time opting for a Viper or Vette, Mustang or Camaro than they did 10 years ago.

I'm going on record right here, right now to predict the Z/28 will be turning lap times on any given track faster than .2 GT3RS. OE stock car vs OE stock car on OE stock rubber. I am also going on record to predict a 'Ring time within 3 seconds of the forthcoming 991 GT3 (not RS) with all it's whizz-bang robotic trickery.
$~70 vs $140k. That is some expensive "feel" for those who wish to make that argument
Hammer me all you like, the truth will be out in six months or so. "The Z/28 is the track car value of the past decade" - savyboy, April 9, 2013

However, for pure track performance, why not a left over Corvette Z06/Z07 for similiar money? Discounts are huge as I mentioned previously. Buddy got a leftover brand new '11 Z07 with 15 miles on it for $69k. Sticker was $97k and dealership just wanted it gone as the '13 model was coming in.
A Z07 on sport cups is going to work over a Z/28 and pretty much any other stock production car on the track.
All that said, the Z/28 is a bad mama jama and it will definitely look more uniquie and be 'cooler' than a Z07 Z06. So, you won't get crap from me for getting it!

I like your enthusiasm and I will reiterate that I think the Z/28 is an awesome car and I'm glad GM made it.

Porsche lost touch with the grassroots level enthusiasts many years ago, not a company I want to support right now.
