Sounds good but that's a pretty vague comment. Which Z06 (there is a huge void between 06 and 11 in terms of speed), on what tires and what does competitive mean how many seconds different.
The C6 Grandsport ran almost and identical time to the 06 Z06 at VIR. Both at 2:58 on the grand course.

Meno reportedly ran 2:54/2:55 laps in a C7 Z51. I suspect time was compared to high option 2012/2013 Z06.
Hhmmm... remember GM said "competitive lap times"... not that the C7 Z51 beat the C6 Z06.
Why would you expect GM/Meno to compare a 2014 Corvette to an 2006 Z06 ?
IMO Only question would be... were the runs comparing the two cars back to back on the same day... or not?
Different days....That could make a big difference.

Or to build a Z06R only to say "this is what it would look like IF we built it".
Just trying to cut through any manufacturer bull that might be present. Technically he would be right no matter what year of the Z06. But what tires did they drive the C7 on as well? I saw the thread on CF, so I think it will be cool to see the end result, but I just don't like word games, and GM isn't immune from using them time to time.

In Porsche pricing that would probably run like $9,000.
looks pretty decent in contrasting body/wheel colors. A head-turner no matter how you slice it.

well comparing the 991/991 GT3 and this car....this might be the first time where I find the Corvette to be the more eye-catching design. Especially when you put the sticker price on the window. At least they didn't put decals on the fenders. The 991 GT3 really just is a slight progression of the 997 which is nearly an 8 year old theme by now.
If Chevy ironed-out some of the 'not ready for prime time' parts like the steering wheel and tail lights, you could put a Ferrari badge on this thing and fool quiet a few car people. It's not like its slow or anything...

Former Vendor
This is Chevy we are talking about here. Its going to be screwed up. In my personal experience I had a 06 C6 and 07. The 06 was a GM buyback because they couldn't figure out what was wrong with it! The 07 had a computer gremlin. I fully expect there to be a lot of issues with these cars.

But my Porsche ownership experience (from the service and warranty perspective) has sucked for the last 2 years. They can't find anything. They can't fix anything. They screw up more than they fix. Nothing is ever covered. Not to mention all the factory things that will have to be fixed on my dime.
The Porsche warranty, in my experience, is worthless.
With the money saved on the Corvette's initial buy, I could self-warranty.
I don't even want to say my opinion of Government Motors, but if I was buying now, I'd give the Corvette a chance.
