LSJU, welcome to the forum....you've said more in 4 posts then most say in 400 posts. You and the Vette guys are invading rennlist ! LOL....
I've had Vette's in the past...'87, '92, '94, '99 and then I got in Porsches. Vette's were good cars but not good in the long run like Porsche or even the classic older Vettes. am truly hoping this new C7 is a major change and is a solid built and lasting car. I'm excited for the C7 and I believe GM is turning things around.

A little history on the Z06, which was the first Vette you could take from the showroom directly to the track.
The C5 Z06 was an up-graded C5.
Hotter engine, firmer suspension, short ratio transmission, some weight reduction.
The C6 Z06 was effectively a separate model. About the only parts carried over from the base C6 was the interior, the rest of the car, from the brakes up, were unique. The handling at the track was MUCH IMPROVED, in fact, with little preparation, IMO... it was World Class.
I would be surprised if the C7 Z06 doesn't follow the same path as the...
C6 Z06 !!!
So if you are looking for all the "bells and whistles" suitable for evaluating a car's handling ability on a road course the Z06 is due next year.

My 06 with 20,000 miles has an issue where the battery dies if I don't turn off the radio before I shut the car down. Dealer can't figure out a fix, out of warranty now. Squeaks and rattles, poor wearing components on the interior. Passenger side door panel won't hold the reflector in anymore. Close the door and it pops out. Replaced with new lens, didn't help. Looking for a replacement door panel. Clutch spring broke a couple of weeks ago.

I would say the C4 was the first. It was so good, that it was kicked out of the SCCA Showroom Stock class after Corvettes won every race over three years.
Other than the oil starvation in sustained high G corners, roof panel separation, brakes that were outsourced to the cheapest bidder (PBR), valve issues, rocker arm failures due to needle bearings, Seats that can't hold you in place around a corner and well let's not get started on the interior faults. Yep, World Class.

I did change to Coleman 2 pc rotors and installed a Brey Krause harness bar and belts upon delivery.
Warranty issues: replaced a leaking water pump and alternator wiring harness in the first year. No other issues, no rattles, or other problems.
Some have had "engine problems" which GM for the most part replaced under warranty.
Many other instructors also use C6 Z06's with similar results.

Thanks again for the info, LSJU. A lot of us Vette guys have long been suffering for making excuses for the Corvette. Each generation seems to get a little bit easier. I grew up being a Honda guy in high school and college (Del Sol, Prelude, then S2000), then when I went to Vettes, I spent half my internet time on the S2000 board (s2ki) defending the Vette. Yeah, my C5 (LS1 with Z51) was a little rough around the edges, but it was a good car that I tracked dozens of times with 45,000 miles of hard abuse that only a 23ish year old could do to a new Corvette with very, very few issue (trunk latch rattle, oil temp sensor, rattling clear roof panel, and a lot of brake pads/rotors/tires due to track use). Otherwise, she was rock solid. That led me to get my '08 LS3 Z51 Vette and now my ZR1. They've been solid cars, sure maybe a little cheapo looking on the interior, but I've never bought Vettes to stare at the interior, I've bought them to strafe people on the track and around town with the sound of a smallblock V8 near redline.
Really excited about what the C7 Z models are going to offer. Almost makes me want to stop doing track mods (aero is next for me) to my ZR1 and just enjoy it for another few years and then step up to a C7 Z0/ZR.
