I really like the idea of the CTS-V wagon, but it looks about 1500 lbs overweight just from the pictures alone. Any thoughts on that?

it weighs 4400 pounds, not sure they could get it to weigh less than a GT3 RS

it's a large, heavy cruiser...with 550 HP/550 lb-ft

It's no lightweight, but so is the sedan/coupe but it's still a ball to drive, had impressive handling and feels more like a German car than an American one.
I just cant knock this car because the fun factor is very high.

does the car feel balanced like a BMW 5 series?
or nose heavy like an Audi or MB?

I imagine you could steer the thing with the throttle

Nicely balanced, not quite 5 series but close. The Racaros do a nice job keeping me planted.

My one complaint is it needs a bigger gas tank, I don't mind the horrific gas mileage just the fact that I was putting gas in it all the time.

I need a bigger tank in the RS4, avg 19-20 mpg, with a 16 gal tank
my 951 has >20 gal iirc

I need to drive a CTS-V sedan, my only hesitation is I'm spoiled by the quattro awd

I went to a Cadillac sponsored and watered down trackday. I drove the standard CTS Coupe in acceleration and braking test the V sedan in the same but with a bit more room and a slalom in the middle then a V Coupe around the track. The V is a fantastic car. I'm a big fan!

If a buyer is expecting an American BMW or Lexus it's not. But the V is a bargain bruiser that handles really superbly.

I really respect that they're now the ONLY uber-sport-wagon seller in the U.S. Audi S4/RS6 avant is out, Mercedes E63 is out, and BWM M5 is out. And the Caddy actually looks nice too.

But I'd still never buy one. Bought a GM once and swore never ever again.

and the fact that you get a 6 speed manual is awesome
can't get that in a MB

performance & design http://www.jdpower.com/autos/ratings...cending/page-/
comparable to Audi/BMW/MB, exceeds them in some catagories

I am just happy to see american cars back in discussions like this. Nice to see them building better cars then they were 5 years ago.

Quattro is addictive, I have had many Audi's, S4. etc

I think I was getting a good solid 9 or 10 mpg in the -V
Also sampled the -V with winter tires and in snow, It did OK, No Cayenne but I was not worried at any time.

951 has a 22 Gal tank, always loved that.

I think the V wagon is awesome, particularly since you can get it with a 6 speed. I'd love to have one, plenty of space for the family and dog...

are you a writer?

how do you get these opportunities?
not only do you get to thrash a CTS-V, but you get to drive it in snow!

4400 lbs is still pretty heavy. I'd be happier with a number that starts with a "3".

To be clear, it seems like I always hear complaints about its weight versus its competition. That's one of two issues I have with the car...

Always seems like that's a problem with the souped-up models--they still use the gas tank from the 30 mpg model.

Sure seems like the CTS can compete on its own these days. They're no longer considered "pretty good for a GM"...

It would be a great solution for our family, but my other problem with these big HP family cars is that they're mostly useless in the winter. I could talk my SO into driving a 550 HP Cadillac wagon with a 6-speed manual and she'd absolutely love it, right up until it snowed. Something tells me that a 550 HP RWD car is going to be quite the handful even on winter tires.
