Yeah, yeah. I know. Look up the thread: I have one.

If it's so good how come the second thing to do to a 'vette for serious track work is to rip it out and put a coil-over kit in it?

The wing just doesn't look right on the corvette.

Chevy wants to be associated with track supremacy, and "for the price" you cant buy a faster track weapon. There is no question that Chevy can make a fast track car that happens to be legal for the street, the question is: "can you live with that track car on the road?". After 3 years of owning a Z06/Z07, I bought myself a 2015 Turbo S because the Z06 was just painful on the road. I never really understood why the P-Cars cost so much money compared to the Corvettes until I spent some real time in a 991 Turbo... now I get it.. its almost as fast on track and its 100x better on the street (the 911).

As for the ZR-1, I am willing to bet it will dethrone the Viper ACR but it will do it at the cost of comfort and usability. If your hunting for track time, it will probably be your most cost effective weapon but I wouldn't want to drive it every day.

Nice- Where in NJ? I am near Jackson..

People upgrade things all the time for track use simply because they think they should. The stock suspension is far more capable than the driving skill of most owners.

2:26 with a bone stock track prepped (roll cage, accusump, and various coolers) C5 ZO6 ain't too shabby at Road America for my friend who set the class record in 2011 in NASA. Meanwhile other friends with bigger motors, bigger brakes, coil-overs etc... were slower.

After a few seasons he upgraded to coil-overs, bigger brakes and jumped up a class. He never matched his best laps at any of the four tracks we frequented.

I completely agree. I did write 'serious track work.'

I'm completely familiar with the typical predilection to spend dollars in reverse order with the last dollars spent - if at all - on tightening the nut behind the wheel.

Did the C[567]R run with the rear transverse composite leaf spring?

My comment about the coil-over kit was - apparently not obviously - slightly tongue-in-cheek. Nevertheless, 'vette enthusiast's love of the leaf springs is no less anachronistic than the love for the air-cooled flat sixes in the 911 world.

As soon as I saw the announcement, I decided I’m getting one. As soon as possible.

Get a GT2 RS, it'll be more dependable, although all cars have their issues, it's value won't drop like a rock either. Or a Ford GT for domestic, maybe a La Ferrari if you want to make a show. ZR1 is still a C7, busy looking, bolt ons and more of the same, just like an ACR. Nice cars but the same old latest new car bling that will fade quickly and won't feed the ego for long. I say all this a little tongue and cheek but if you want a great track car it will need to be purpose built and bullet proof. Enjoy the ride if you get one and let us know what you think.

No one is cross-shopping a ZR1 with any of the cars you've listed, i.e. GT2 RS or FGT. That last one is just plain silly.

Ouch.

My 16 Z06 had a sticker of $108k and base price was $79k. Trade-in value a few months ago was $56k (6k miles pristine car), so I kept it.

I was awaiting for the MSRP announcement to decide on trading mine for a ZR1. No thanks, I will get a 2017/2018 Z06 instead. These 2 years have the cooling issue resolved and both have the same Grand Sport software calibration (15/16 have the horrible software calibration for track mode, and the one lap wonder remaining ones limping cooling system). Brand new 2017s have huge discounts currently, there are a few ones advertised in the low 80s. ZR1 + options can get into the 150k territory, 100hp and an aerokit won't run $70k on upgrades.

ZR1 might be a good buy in 2-3 years when the C8 is out. If the C8 gets independent suspension, C7 values should take a nice hit.

I like my Z06, but there is nothing I love about the car, quality is acceptable but not amazing. My p-cars, these ones are amazing, all of them.

Drove some slightly older Corvettes before I got my Porsche. They are nice, but I ended up getting my 911 S Cab and am glad I did. RJ

I am a die-hard Porsche fan, but wow, hard to argue with the numbers.
Corvettes have always been numbers cars. They are amazing performance bargains. And that's usually where it ends.
