I had a '97 NB Miata (between the MR2 turbo and the 350Z) If I hadn't found the Cayman I wanted, I was going to buy a new MX5.

kavocat - great looking Miata. Had one 20+ years ago. Would love another someday. Great cars and very high fun to value.

Default Miata vs ?

Well I can add to list of prior Miata owners that ultimately went to Porsche. Ive owned 2 Miatas And put more than 150k on them combined. One NA, 1 ‘99 10AE. Miatas are fantastic. Period.

I’ve had 3 Porsche’s now. The first was a 987.1 Cayman S. Loved it. Sold it and ended up buying a 964 targa. It had issues so I sold it. Now in a 997.2 CS 6 speed. I love the car overall but I’m not in love with like I’d hoped I would be.

I have toyed with getting a new ND just for kicks but my job prevents me from using it as a daily and I can’t stand to let it sit and watch it depreciate with little use.

I may just go back to a 987.2...seems like a great way to go and I loved my .1....

I had a Miata during the last recession. Bought it for $20,000 used, put 15k miles on it over two years, sold it for $20,000 and it was fun as heck. Services at the dealer were $39. What's not to like?

Agree with how much fun a Miata is but also agree with the problem of visibility. Not mine, other drivers. They are small enough that sometimes careless other drivers don't notice you which can be a problem. I've had a couple of instances where folks almost nailed me. I've taken to always driving with the full headlights on.

My friend used to have one and I would drive it occasionally. What a fun little car. Would love to have one and ship it to Greece and use it as a summer car. It would be a blast on some of those winding roads.

Miata fan & owner (NC-PRHT) here too... stock powertrain but I did add coilovers, lighter wheels/stickier tires, and when I bought it last year it already had an aftermarket CAI, exhaust and drilled/slotted rotors. I autox it and so far tracked it at PBIR, Homestead, and Sebring. What a fun little toy.... love driving a slow car, fast!

My track toy is a calico Miata.

Here's the thing though.... take whatever number you want.... 10K, 15K, 20K or even 27K like OP spent. Do you get the miata and mod it or an older Boxster (plus potentially mod it too)? You can get a 986 base for 10K nowadays.

Thoughts? I'm truly torn and am looking for a fun car for the wife.
