newport concours 9/26
I was in Newport this weekend for the first time in a dfew years. We did a couple mansion tours and I came to the conclusion that the 50th Anniv concours event at "The ElmsL mansion in Newport is a "don't miss" event. The venue is spectacular and New port is a fun town. I can just imagine all those Porsches crawling up Bellvue and driving out to Ocean Avenue and just scattered all around the town. Also, the food and wine festival is in Newport that weekend.
This is an event I think should be on every porsche enthusiasts radar.

I'm definitely going to be there rain or shine!
Thanks for the heads up on the wine festival, that warrants finding a baby sitter for the day......

I'm also planning to go. I see that there's a cost to display your car - which I wasn't planning to do. Is there a need to pre-register (or pay) if I'm only going there to look at everything?

It's being run by Northeast region PCA http://www.porschenet.com/JCMS/index.php, you can register through them. The cost to enter is $30.00. The Elms usually has an admission charge. You might want to call them and see what it is.

Meet prior? anyone interested....
I am going and live in Newport, trying to pull together a last minute meet spot prior to the event where we can catch up, maybe do a swift ride/rally trhrough the city before or after (I have a mapped out short 20min route with nice roads and sites along the coast) and then roll into the event as a group? PM me if interested...

I'll be there with my 993 Cabriolet. Dragging my old man because he's not into cars and has never been to a car show with me, but I thought Newport would be fun for him. If it weren't for the location this year, I'd skip it because immediately after, I have to book it to Ocean City, MD for one of the biggest Volkswagen shows on the East Coast. I heard that there are at least 60 cars registered, and that the NER expects to have at least 60 more show up at the gates. That's definitely a lot of Porsches, but it still seems a little funny to me considering that this VW show in MD had 1000 show entrants last year...

I think part of the problem is that PCA doesn't do a very good job advertising the shows or their events for that matter. You really have to seek things out, otherwise you miss them. Odd really.

Great show and a great time. As always, some amazing Porsches on hand. Finally had a chance to meet many rennlist members there and put some faces to the names.
The 944 was very well prepared. Would have been better if it wasn't trailered in but thats part of concours. Still the judgest awarded fairly IMHO and were very forthcoming about how to improve for the next go round.
Drive down was also awesome, no traffic, cool weather and triple digits without tickets.....
