If you take possession of the car in CA you have to pay CA sales tax. I excluded cars from CA for this reason. NV doesn't have the same requirement. I bought the car in NV, the dealership took care of all the paperwork, and I drove it back to OR. The dealership even sent the paperwork to the DMV. I had to go in for a VIN inspection, 30 min wait then 2 min inspection, and al was done.

I bought a CPO car from Gaudin Porsche. The salesperson was Anthony Mendoza [email protected]

    Good afternoon unibrain,
I came across one of your posts where you described your experience purchasing your car in NV and driving it back. I was hoping to pick your brain on the process. I'm potentially thinking about purchasing a car from California and driving back to Portland and was wondering what the sales tax situation was. Every one I ask, (dealership, bank, CA DMV) gives me a different answer and I don't want to get stuck with a 5K tax bill.
