Hello porsche world. I solved ticking sound coming from engine. Engine was internally damaged from oil not being circulated to the top of engine. Tempurture ran high and I thought it was normal. Well to make a long story short, I replaced the engine and it turned out great. Old engine oil pump was failing and deprived hydraulic litters of proper lubrication.
Sorry for late response. I still have ticking sound and I am thinking about replacing lifter or lifters. Got a quote from secondhand repair shop mechanic, cost would start around $5000 to just replace effected lifter once found.
Saw your reply to the thread. Yes my car had a sticker price of 140k
Replying to your response:
- does that mean that Porsche said that this sound is normal and we should live with it?
- are you still considering replacing the lifters? I asked for estimates
And just like you:
I also have compression in all cylinders Boroscoped and all seemed fine. Tried putting very heavy oil and sound was same. Previous owner put performance tensioners on chain and sound persisted (so likely not chain). Must be lifters even though sound is not exactly typical of lifters to me
