I saw your rack rebuild pictures.
I had mine rebuilt but the flat on the spline does not line up to the universal.
It looks like it is a straight forward procedure to remove the three bolts from the spline flange, pull the spine out and reseat it. Is it that easy?

I have an 85 928S and was on Rennlist reading about motor mounts and noticed one of your postings...and corresponding picture of your car with the 928 rack on top. Fantastic piece of equipment and impossssssible to find so far. Do you still have it? I presume so, and still want it. If not, any ideas where to find something like this?

I have just joined Rennlist to do a bit of research concerning the SE variant of the 928, I have just put a deposit on an SE and agreed to purchase (subject to a pre purchase inspection) unfortunately, the car no longer original as it doesn't have it's original wheels or interior, would be nice to track down an original interior but next to impossible I know, wheels may be slightly easier, I'm currently trying to contact a guy on 928.org who had his SE written off, I'm guessing he didn't rebuild it as the wheels went on to one of his other cars.
Anyway, thought I might just drop you a line to let you know there may be another SE in Australia soon.
