Hi.
I much appreciated your blog. I met Gary once, on a business trip last year, after reading his postings and sending him a note. We spent the better part of a day sharing stories about people we knew from way back when he was a student at Stanford, about cars, his new pride and joy, life in general and about Cindy. We plotted a road trip this summer. Like you, his passing stopped me cold.
I knew him less than you did, but I just wanted to share your grief.

I ask myself why I feel this given such a fleeting friendship. I think it is because one rarely meets someone so openly fierce about trying to live life to the fullest, and not being sure he was succeeding. We talked about that. He was open about how hard he was trying to deal with overwhelming loss, and about aging (both of us 69), about what was worth doing and things not to risk putting off. I will always think of Gary and thank him for for that.
