No engine work except for replacing the upper and lower valve cover gaskets. No new clutch. No rust that I can see around the wind screens. Only routine maintenance. No oil noted under the car so I suspect no leaks since replacing the valve cover gaskets.

Good luck with the search! I'm not sure that VR / non-VR really makes that much a difference. That said, I would suggest driving the car a while before deciding what you want to do with the transmission, if anything.
