Description:
Ordered from the Eugene, Oregon dealer with European delivery by the owner's father. Black on Black. Options include Sunroof (inoperable- details below), side molding, and gas heater (not hooked up). A couple years after purchase, Father suddenly passed and left the car with current owner. In the mid 70's the car was taken apart and painted silver. In 1980 the car was garaged (in good working order) and left for a few decades.
In 2019 the car was refreshed so it would be a reliable driver by the Crumpton's in Oregon who work on 300 SL's (and completely restored the owners 300 SL Gullwing and Convertible. They put in a new fuel tank, went through the brake system (new shoes, lines, wheel cylinders, and a new master as well) and put shocks and an exhaust on it, cleaned up the interior (original leather) and put new carpets in. Motor work was cosmetic. Put a new coil, plugs, plug wires on. Ended up putting a webber carb kit from Stoddard. The original carbs need a new bushing put in for the butterfly shaft. Would not idle with original carbs due to the worn bushing. Owner has the original carbs. Transmission has not been rebuilt and is quiet. Owner has put less than 1,000 miles on it since the referb. Mileage has not rolled over- it's a true 74k mile car. Always garage kept. No rust. Bumpers are included but not on the car and the bumper hole covers are easily removable to reinstall the bumpers.
All original paperwork and booklets. Original tools and tool kit
New tires installed this fall.
Blemishes:
- Decades ago car was being towing behind his tractor and owner's late wife mistook the clutch for the brake pedal. Tow hitch dent on the nose was repaired the right way.
- The moon roof panel was damaged in the 70's when the car painted. It was reinstalled improperly, flew off on the drive home and was run over by a truck. Have the original panel but it needs work. Ended up building a panel and had it painted to fill the gap.
