Description:
I purchased this car in June of 2020 with just under 42,000 miles. It was inspected by both my local independent shop and a Porsche dealer, and all but one known issue - a cracked front undertray panel - was addressed [1/9/2022 - new undertray on order from Pelican, and will be installed prior to sale]. Additionally, I took care of several minor trim items myself, and had a few preventative maintenance items addressed. I'll gladly cover in detail and share documentation with genuinely interested parties.
The car was polished and ceramic coated in August of 2021. It's garaged in the winter.
I welcome third party inspections (even "invasive" ones), though at buyer's cost. Located in central Maine, USA.
Options breakdown attached.
Notes
- I've included a photo of the options sticker. Highlights are full leather, hollow turbo twists, sport package (including factory sport suspension and sport seats), and LSD.
- Includes a Porsche Production Specifications Certificate, Porsche sun shade, and a fitted Porsche car cover. Original cassette holder included (I replaced this with another storage bay).
- To the best of my knowledge, the aerokit was installed prior to initial sale by the selling dealer in 1998.
- Porsche umbrella included. The vent slats have that lovely texture you hear so much about in the 996 forum here.
- This car is stock, save for the powder coating on the hollow turbo twists. I've hardwired a dash cam and a radar detector, and these are easily reversible. Dashcam and radar detector aren't included.
- No owner's manual, but the under dash manual holder is included.
- As is known, apparently, some (many?) early 1999 996s received replacement engines early in their life. This appears to be one of those examples. The original engine serial (on the full build sheet PDF, attached) is a 1998-dated engine; the replacement is a 1999-dated engine. I don't believe there's cause for concern, and 996 regulars here indicate that this wasn't uncommon.
- Replaced the plastic bits in the rack mount hardware.
- Replaced some small rubber trim in the driver's side power mirror housing to seat it properly.
- Replaced wiper blades
- Replaced frunk struts with new OEM struts
- Replaced the 4-cassette holder with another storage piece. Original cassette holder included.
- Removed owner's manual holder. Included.
- Replaced wheel center caps with a set ordered from Oleg here. Not Porsche, but high quality.
- Cleaned out radiators / condensers
- Replaced cabin air filter
- As stated above, hardwired dashcam and radar detector. Neither are included. These are easily reversible.
- Hardwired Rennkit Bluetooth module for music and calls. Included. Again, easily reversible.
- Local independent shop:
- Replaced coolant expansion tank, twice, first with OEM and then with Porsche original. I had the common problem of the latest Porsche cap not fitting on the OEM, so went original. Coolant was flushed and filled, of course.
- Oil/filter change
- State inspection
- Replaced MAF sensor (week of purchase)
- Left rear / left front sway bar links replaced
- Wheel bearing replacement (one wheel)
- 4-wheel alignment
- Valve cover gasket replacement
- Exterior detailed / Ceramic Coating
- Porsche dealer (Morong in Falmouth, ME)
- Second key ordered, cut and programmed
- Post-purchase inspection for peace of mind
- Paint work on wing
- Tires are 2016 and while tread is good, should be replaced due to age for anything other than town driving.
- Scuff (about 2") on back of passenger seat, as noted above. I'm told this can be repaired but haven't touched it myself yet.
- Frunk pull lever is scuffed, as most are. Even if the car was mint, I'd leave this as is. I like this one evidence of use, for some reason.
- Sunroof has the common rattle when closed when going over bumps. There is an easy kludge to place foam strategically, or it can be fixed properly. I have/had plans to do the latter.
Rennlist only lets you close these threads with "Mark as sold", so I should have clarified before I did that in the original thread.
