Back in October of 2019, the previous owner experienced "IMS failure" and scoring on the cylinder walls. The motor was still running, but the damage was apparent. The engine was removed from the car by Specialty Motorwerkes (937-293-1188) in Dayton Ohio. The engine was shipped to MB Motorsports (773-431-9107) in St. Lucie Florida. MB Motorsports completely rebuild the engine and shipped it back to Specialty in Ohio for reinstallation. The motor was reinstalled in March of 2020. I have all of the receipts and the total job was nearly $20,000. The mileage on the car at the time of repair was 59,898 miles.
I hope this helps and if anyone is serious about the car, I can send the documentation for the work performed.
Thanks again for asking.
Yes, back in November of 2011 at approximately 25,750 miles, the CarFax shows a minor incident to the rear of the car. I say "minor" because the reported as drivable and there is ZERO paint work on the car. All of the body panels on the car report a consistent reading with the paint meter. It is possible that the bumperettes or the rear bumper was replaced - because the paint meter won't report on materials other than metal. With that said, this was obviously a concern of mine when I purchased the vehicle, so I asked the mechanic that did the PPI to pay extra attention to the rear end of the car and see if there are any signs of damage. The mechanic could not see any signs of impact, nor could he see signs of any replacement parts in the rear bumper area. If you are interested in seeing the car in person, I am sure you will concur that this is an superb example of a 2007 997 C4S.
I am happy to share the CarFax with any interested party. The CarFax will also show an extensive service history with over 25 service entries and very low mileage.
Thanks again for sharing your input on my car.
I am happy to answer any additional questions that anyone has.
Cheers,
KJ
can you tell me what is warranty on motor and how did they repair the ims?
thanks
bill
The rebuild came with an extended warranty that covered the engine for 12 months. That expired in March 2021. The car has about 7,500 miles since the repair and has been absolutely flawless. The motor is completely dry, with no leaks at all. With regard to the IMS - The paperwork states "New IMS Roller Bearing". The MB Motorsports website may be able to provide you a little more information as I am not too technically savvy to explain how they replaced it? I am happy to share with you the service documentation that relates to the rebuild if you would find that helpful. Let me know.
Thanks very much for your inquiry. Let me know if you have any other questions or I can be of any assistance.
Cheers,
KJ
