For your consideration I present a very rare 997 GT3 shift **** and boot. What makes it really rare is the RED shifting pattern engraved on the cap. The only other red shift pattern I am aware of is on the contemporary GT2 Red/Black Acantara shifter/boot.
Some Porsche internet vendors affer an "orange edition", and another with a red shifting pattern on a leather ****/boot, both marketed for the 986 of the era.
As you can see from the close up pictures the shifter is in almost perfect condition. I rate it 9/10 since it is not BNIB and does have the slightest evidence of use.
Price is $800 shipped to CONTUS. Paypal gift is preferred, but if you'd like to pay for goods and services, I kindly ask you add 4% to cover the fees, please.
thank you for looking and this rare piece...

Very nice shift **** you have there, however what are the possibilities of the original shift cap being replaced by a Boxster Spyder shift pattern cap. As far as I know the shift caps are removable and interchangeable. This is definitely a nice piece but I'm not sure if its a "one-off" or rare piece.

I do not know the answer to your proposition. Prior to last week I would have answered with a rotund "none". However, a friend of mine showed me a chinese copy of a SS Rolex Daytona ceramic white dial that we put "face to face" to my original and truth be told I was perplexed at the similarity. It made me respect and fear the fake industry and all the dishonest business out there.
Having said that, the way this piece is built, I am extremely challenged to find fault with it. I looked under my magnifying lamp and saw no evidence of tampering. I also have pictures of the car it came from
So I am very confident the possibility of this being a "transplant" job as you suggest is very near zero, and being an honest enthusiast have no problem offering to the rennlist community as a bona fide product.
If anyone buys it and can probe beyond reasonable doubt this part has been tampered with or is a fake, I will return his/her money minus shipping costs.
I don't think anyone is insinuating that the piece has been altered. It's just that those are super easy to make. Just get a Alcantara shifter and pop on a Boxster cap or better yet, just paint the numbers.
It’s incredibly easy to replace the shifter cap with another one without showing any indication of that having been done. Even so, these are high wear areas that seldom remain mint and are often replaced.
that said, a full alcantara boot/**** is about a third of this price brand new from suncoast.
is red lettering worth such an extravagant premium when it could be DIYed in a few min - the market will decide.
Good morning, you guys may be on to something here. I will ask the person who sold it to me and see if he can tell me where he sourced it, etc. I think I paid $750 for it. At the time I was in the middle of a campaign for upgrading my 997 S interior to full leather and Alcantara trim and this part popped up. The red shift pattern matched my car perfectly, and I was on a roll, really did not give it much thought. What caught my attention here is the date of manufacture on the boot. Could it have been a special run like the Orange Edition currently available from Suncoast? I would think those orange ones will carry a post 997 build date...
Anyways, If I can clarify the provenance of the piece, I will stand by my offer. If I cannot, I will ask to close the ad and literally throw it in the trash. I have no use for it, and I am not a used part dealer or the such. Just an enthusiast. I have wasted more money faster and easier than this LOL
Certainly there is no intension to commit fraud. I am way too busy and proud for that.
I am not trying to put a true value on your shift ****, just sharing the info, this is what this site is all about. According to the parts number listed within the boot 99742407505A15, it is just a alcantara shift know/boot that cost around U$300 brand new. As far as the red shift pattern goes, please see post #36 on this thread
This is purely my speculation, please correct me if I am wrong.

If you do go the "throw it away route", we can take it off your hands. Will be used for experimentation. Would compensate you for the part and shipping of course. PM us if so.
Here is the scoop. The shift ****/boot is originally from Suncoast. It was marketed as a special edition for the 718 Cayman R and Boxter Spyder! The PO bought it from the Original owner and installed it in his 997 GT3. That's where I got it from.
As it stands, all three of us agree this is still a rare piece.
i will fix the ad above and lower the price to reflect my mistake and avoid any hint at fraud LOL
as for the resourceful/skillful among you, i will still welcome you to paint and create your own. For anybody else who would like an original, rare part for your 997/987/718 feel free to make me an offer.

I don't think this shift **** will fit 718 Cayman or boxster (981/982/991). It will only fit the 987/997/996/986, and since 718 belongs to 982 Gen, and so it will not fit.
This alcantara **** with red stitching was indeed an option offered for 987 Cayman R and Spyder (boxster). Normal shift ***** came with smooth leather and red painted shift patter on these cars (see below).
In searching for this, there were countless variations shift pattern colors and boot material. Heck even the PDK can be optioned with a red pattern and alcantara.
