Great condition 1996 Porsche 911 C4S for sale. Car has 54,95x miles and is in great working order. All service and repairs up to date including a binder of records from 1998. Top end rebuilt at 45,xxx miles in 2014 by EPE - compression/leakdown test performed in 2016. Issues: worn driver side seat bolster (pictured), rock chips and scratches on front end and side mirrors, small stain on passenger side seat (pictured).

Perhaps this is an inappropriate question for this thread--and if so, I'll gladly delete it--but curious to know what precipitates the need for a top-end rebuild on a car with less than 50k miles.

Great-looking car, BTW.

No worries....I'm sure there will better answers to this question than I can provide but the 993 model had valve guides that were soft and wore out prematurely. This caused excess oil consumption, SAI issues and inability to pass smog testing. It is a known flaw and some may care about it more than others...just something I considerd when purchasing. As far as mileage, I believe the issue ran the gamut of happening early in life, later in life or not at all.
