Description:
This 1.7 liter car has underwent an extensive recommissioning over the last several years, and only needs some fine tuning to turn it into a good driver. Most of the attention and time during the restoration process was spent on repairing rust prevalent in typical chassis locations; such as the battery box, "hell hole", inner rocker panels, door sills, and jack receiver plate and tube. When reassembling, new rubber seals, a carpet kit, and rebuilt door panels were installed. Mechanically, the car has had a new transmission installed and an engine rebuild to 1.8 liter specs using 93mm Kolbenschmidt pistons, rebuilt cylinder heads, new valve guides, piston rings, rod bearings, crankshaft bearings and camshaft bearings. A new Sachs clutch and heat exchangers completed the build.
So what's the catch? A rust-free 914 with a rebuilt engine for only 13k in todays market simply doesn't exist - unless there are issues! Unfortunately, after all the hard work repairing rust, a sub-par paint job detracts from the overall presentation of the car. Additionally, the engine currently does not run well, suffering from a low idle that causes the car to stall nearly every time it comes to a stop. The engine is still running it's original D Jetronic fuel injection, but the entire system needs to be gone thru to sort out the idle issue - or perhaps the new owner could just convert the car to carburretors.
The car is at our shop being sold on consignment by it's new owner, who last month purchased it sight unseen from the gentleman who did the restoration. Upon receiving the car, the current owner realized he had purchased a vehicle that wasn't "turn-key". Consequently, he decided almost immediately to move on and sell the car as-is since he did not want to spend the time or money to bring it up to his standards. He is not looking to recoup his entire investment as the car is already priced thousands less than he paid. For further information, feel free to contact Glenn Butler at 704-962-9683
