I am finally cleaning out my garage as I need space. This, like the garage is a work in progress, so I will be updating regularly and adding more items as I have time along with pictures. All prices are in USD and do not include shipping and or duties. I will answer all questions as quickly as I can but I do travel a fair bit and may need additional time to respond.

Here are some details on this engine. I bought this vehicle with 178km on it when it suffered from a D chunk failure. It was disassembled and sent to LN for 101mm sleeves, balanced and pinned IMS. After cleaning and thoroughly inspecting the rest of the engine and painting it, I then assembled it with all new internals: JE pistons with coated skirts, all new crank and rod bearings, ARP crank and rod bolts, all new chains and guides including billet IMS guide, camshaft actuator guides, . IMS solution, chromoly pump drive, rebuilt oil pumps, heads were sent out and resurfaced, all new gaskets and seals. This engine was broken in using Joe Gibbs break-in Oil and now has approx 6000 km on it. This is maybe the 15th one I have done and I am selling it because I have 2 more 3.8M96's and 2 more 4.0 M97's and a 996TT Mezger to assemble and I need to free up some funds for my next project which is a high revving 3.8 or 4.0 M96 with ITB's and GT3 exhaust.
I have 25+ years of Porsche dealership experience and I have a side business called Nm Technik that builds engines, mainly M96, M97 and aircooled, but have done everything from VW diesels to 356 to Japanese Motorcycles. Please feel free to ask questions.
What engine management is needed to run a 4.0 engine in a 99? Was the compression left stock or was it bumped up?
The stock DME is able to compensate for displacement increase between 10-20%. I have run stock mapping in all upgrades from 2.5 to 2.7 and 3.4 to 3.8 and all the way up to 3.8 to 4.0 with out any issues. In some cases I will upgrade the bolt on hardware such as injectors and throttle bodies with the larger versions, but the stock DME can handle without issue. I don't make any significant changes to compression ratios, but I can tell you the engine balance is much improved across all cylinders. I am currently running the X50 mapping on my 3.8 996. I might just set up a dyno run to see what the actual power increase is as I am curious as well, my guess is around 50hp, but the noticeable difference is in torque, the pull is much smoother and stronger across the entire RPM range. Like all engines though, any improvements to breathing ability will translate to power, so full benefits are experienced with add on's such as intake and exhaust.
