Default First Macan road trip

Decided to drive to Park City Utah from California rather than fly to put my 2023 through its paces. Heading out early tomorrow, will report back and maybe post some photos.

Hope you enjoy it.
Did a short road trip to the OR and WA coasts last week. Would have gone up into Canada, but did it three times already in the 993 with a friend, the 911TT with another friend, once with Daughter and twice with Wife. Cross country 3 times with Wife, enough, so shipped the 911TT last time we moved from FL to ID.
Driving down to Reno and Yosemite next month in the Macan.

If you have LKA try it with it on and off. IMO on the highway turning LKA on reduces steering "twitchiness" and makes it nicer to drive. I leave it off the rest of the time.

Fun!

I've done it in Porsche sports cars, never in an SUV so will be interested to see how it does.

Interesting and yes mine has it. I would have figured it did the opposite so will give it a try tomorrow. I've had it turned off since I bought the car.

Here you go. Taking the blue route there and the gray coming back plus any off shoots that look interesting.

The gray route return will put you to sleep at the wheel.
If you go via Ely NV then on 50 W nicer scenery and a few twisties.

+ 1 on the recommendation to take Rt 50- the "Loneliest Highway in America". Google that and "Cold Spring Station Resort". It was the last Pony Express station! I stopped there in my Macan S en route from DC to Monterey for the last Rennsport. Met others at the racetrack who stayed there too. It was full up in the morning.

I have fond memories of testing the Macan's high end on the straightest strip of road imaginable, and the unexpectedly delightful funky motel with good food- and solar powered.

Looks like a great road trip.

My new Macan was collected at PCNA Atlanta, then I took it on a road trip up to New Hampshire then back home to southern Florida, visiting friends and family along the way.

It was great.

I’d recommend stopping at the Reagan Museum in Simi Valley since you’re going to be so close. They have Airforce One inside the building.

Yes it's counterintuitive but it works.

You were spot on. Noticeably less twitchy than without LKA. Thanks for the tip.

First leg is in the bag and here are a few observations.

The car is remarkably quiet, mine has the noise insulated glass and it really makes a difference. I have the Michelin Latitude tires and while they’re twitchy on grooved concrete roads they’re comfortable and quiet. On the smooth as glass 80 MPH highway in Utah they were planted.

Sun visor? Jeez Porsche get with the program. I bought an insert to put in the driver window but would have been blinded without it as the stock visor is too small to block the sun. What are they thinking?

Gas mileage was surprising, I snapped a shot when I got into Provo and it was 29.1, after I climbed the mountain to Park City it dropped to 28.9.

The 18 way seats fit like a glove and after 12 hours in the car I still didn’t need to reach for the Advil. The ventilated seats were good on low even when the temperature was above 110.

The Bose was adequate and I was able to listen to music most of the way without listener fatigue. There’s a noticeable difference between the hi res files I have on a USB drive and the low rez streamed signal but that’s true with any system. It does a fair job with 24 bit files though.

There weren’t a ton of curved roads but it stuck like glue in the few twistiest there were. I had the suspension set to sport plus mode with LKA turned on.

Apple CarPlay rocks. It nailed every upcoming speed trap and gave me a few miles to slow down. I didn’t realize it did that but when “caution, speed check ahead” warnings came up there was always a trap or someone getting a ticket.

That gas mileage is insane! I drive an S and the best I can get is 21 highway. Great notes on the drive!
