Default Dua Lipa x Porsche: Macan commercial

It is an interesting and unexpected collaboration.

Makes me wonder whether Porsche is targeting millennials with its Macan Electric… even though they’re usually not ones to spend money on big ticket items.

I saw that earlier.

Porsche is trying too hard.

And it's showing.

They should try this kind of thing in the next James Bond staring Dua Lipa / Macan as the James Bond girl and her machine!

Why is that trying too hard? Is it wrong for Porsche to try to expand their base? My 29 year old son texted me a link to the video yesterday. He and my other son thought it was cool. She's a relatively non-controversial entertainer with a vast following.

Does Porsche need a celebrity singer to sell the 911?

To any demographic?

Probably true. But the 911 also “only” represents 1/6 of the company’s sales.

The shareholders probably want them to sell a ton more cars (especially given the slowing trend). Going after a different audience/market may help with that.

Not too many examples, but Porsche has used celebrity influence for a while. Janiis Joplin's 1964 356 and Brand Ambassador Maria Sharipova in 2013. (not sure if photos loaded)

No reason for Porsche to only be a high brow, conservative, add your adjective here, brand. They have my full permission to market using well liked, successful, top of their game, attractive people. Seems actually in line with what a Porsche is. Try as hard as u want with such people, it fits the brand I want!

Some of this stuff is likely not directly related to selling anything so much as brand management. It’s important that the public perception of the brand is hot and cutting edge.

Being accurately labeled as the brand of > 50s balding bankers and dentists would be …. suboptimal … for business.

And that is the exact concern at Porsche currently, the average age of their customers is over 50 and they want to attract younger buyers.

I read a piece about this just a few days ago, will try to find it and share it.
