From my dealership, in standard you have Normal mode, off-road mode and Sport mode (which includes Launch control).
You need to be in Sport Mode (or Sport plus mode, see below) to enable Launch control.

Pack Chrono Sport adds:
- the famous chrono, obviously, and PCM’s Sport Chrono App
- Sport Plus mode
- Individual Modes
- extension of the PSM with a Sport mode

So:
- if you want Individual Modes, you need Sport Chrono option.
- if you only want Launch Control, you do not need Sport Chrono option.

Optional Porsche Electric Sport Sound is only available when in Sport/Sport+ modes

Damn, individual modes! I really wanted the Compass, mostly to get the elevation reading, since I'm in Colorado and I like to keep my eye on elevation. This will be a tough call now.

At least on my '18 Macan, a recent '24 loaner Macan and my 981 cars you can set the lower line of the vehicle information screen in the gauge cluster to the GPS elevation setting. I would guess that is still possible in the newer clusters too.

Well maybe I’ll just go all the way and get the fancy sub second clock then. Idk, I’m pretty confused, glad I’ve got some time before lock in.

I am too confused at this point in time. I would like to have the altitude (we travel often to the mountains) and the clock be visible at all times on the top of the dash Yet I would like the Sports Chrono option for its Sports Plus mode add’l capability.

It will be good when someone learns all this conclusively and in detail and postsit. Right now I have preliminarily chosen the $430 Compass/Altimeter with Off Road Precision App (not that I care at all about the off road app).

Compass may be preferred by some for aesthetic reasons, but not really needed given the other options are there to display the same data on the instrument screens/HUD.
I may find it mildly interesting for a quick orientation glance, but really I don’t need either a clock or compass there but do want the mode select dial, which is already there.

Also, some people are reporting strange behaviour by the compass:

Is the altitude available on any screen or setting other than the top of dash compass?

I'm not sure.
But I know you mentioned it is necessary for you as you often travel to the mountains, but I'm still confused why you need to look at the compass when you can feel ascendancy and decline when driving. 🤔

Altitude... freeze level. It's the reason I am ordering it. I don't want to dig through menus to find it. Having it front center at all times is easier and piece of mind.

Driving is joy to my wife and me, most every year driving over 10,000 road trip miles alone. Part of my wife’s particular passenger joy is her knowing at all times the direction we are heading, the altitude we are at, and the “radio station” — both artist and song’s name. So our next vehicle will have both the passenger display screen and the top-of-dash compass/altimeter. She also gets at least “veto” on exterior color and interior appearance — though we often are typically happy with those same color decisions inside and out.

However, part of her joy, and therefore in spades is mine, is she urges me to choose every mechanical and performance optionI want. Happy, happy marriage for 55 years — with our next car being our 56th one (though about half early on were used ones…).

LOL, she has yet to learn I chose such options as “push to pass,” rear steering, and similar — but when we spiritedly drive isolated curvy country roads, she loves it when we are exercising our vehicles.
