Default Only Porsche Dealers will be able to service it ?? :(

Right now with our Taycan one of the things I don’t like is that even tough the scheduled maintenance is super easy DIY, you cannot reset the service reminders yourself without a PIWIS. Not a huge deal if you have a buddy with one. However, I understand that with the Macan EV, not only will you need a PIWIS, but one that fully updated and actively connected to Stuttgart...in other words, only your authorized Porsche dealer will be able to reset service and code modules. Obviously, this is not something is being covered by Porsche's marketing materials. I can understand that the dealers want to protect their service revenue in the face of EVs becoming a larger segment of Porsche's product line.

Any truth to this?

I haven't heard of it but I'd fully believe it. I've been wondering how manufacturers are going to keep the daelerships happy with service revenue as the service department of a dealership can often float the entire dealership. EV's are effectively turning that revenue stream off significantly because of significantly less maintenance required while newish. Dealerships predominately only work on newer cars. So it makes sense and I have seen stuff like this creeping up for awhile.

New battery = Porsche thinks you should get it coded (why?)
lights disconnected on a car, off to the dealership it goes to recalibrate (why?)
Non self clearing codes for all kinds of systems that actually aren't a problem (low voltage is probably the worst one I see).
Going back further we had manufacturer specific tools (you can buy them but it's not logical to do so unless you specialize in that car specifically)
etc etc etc.

I’m not surprised. Can’t wait to pay excessive service charges. I will miss my independent Porsche mechanic if they can’t service.

I guess as cars get more complicated this was inevitable.

But I think third party shops - indie? - will be able to service them also.

Except perhaps for Porsche, it's not inevitable. It's literally called "protection of vehicle diagnosis"

Wow, you weren't kidding. Just imagine...

Some poor schlub had to implement that in the firmware, or be fired.

Not surprising since EVs require a lot less maintenance.

Pre-paying for the services would get around paying for any inflated service charges.

some math…

100 kWh "raw" capacity battery
95 kWh "usable"
"known" range @ 325 miles (according to Kyle's video
325 miles driven at 95 kwh leads to approximately 3.42 miles per kWh

my cost per-kWh on PG&E EV-A plan is $0.34 kWh "off peak"
cost per mile driven is therefore $0.34 / 3.42 = $0.099/mile

using 28 mpg as a factor and $4.50 gallon gasoline - cost per mile of the ICE macan is $0.16/mile driven

so $0.10 mile driven for the EV
and $0.16 mile driven for the ICE

YMMV literally - costs to drive are obviously very very dependent on your local ulility rates…

Definitely. In my crappy area of the USA, it’s $0.09 cents per kWh and no differentiation between peak time.

$0.09 / kWh makes it $0.03 per mile to drive an EV - that's insane.

Yeah. $0.12 per kWh here. Very cheap.

Us folks in CA get to pay some of the highest electric rates in the US hence why it made sense to get solar before they went to NEM 3.0.

28 mpg in a Macan? I'd be lucky if I got 18 mpg in my Macan GTS. In 2022, I drove over 30,000 miles on my Macan and spent more than $8,000 for gas just on the Macan.
