Official EV Macan Discussion - Launch on 25/01/24

It seems porsche is now ready for the launch. A photo of the new interior has also been revealed.

I will update with more info when I speak with a couple of dealers.

This is actually a huge launch for the brand and I am surprised by the lack of interested in Rennlist. I was not really interested in this but after driving briefly my wife's cayenne e-hybrid I think this new Macan could be an excellent city car.

In any case I really hope Porsche succeeds with this since it is a crucial model and will be one of the needed financial pillar for Porsche's electric fight.

Updated link live for launch on the 25th of January from 12:30 p.m. (CET):

Lack of interest on Rennlist based on the general lack of interest in EVs among car enthusiasts and a large portion of the car buying public. As a Porsche I'm sure it will be great but the coming Macan EV is the reason I ordered a new Macan GTS last year... much more interested in getting one of the last ICE models vs an EV version.

Let's face it, we'll all drive EVs later. I'm sure it's amazing EV SUV in today's standard but just like first gen Blu-Ray players, I don't think EVs are well refined yet in my opinion (Had full EV in 2015 and currently have PIHV in fleet along with 911). So I bought a Macan T last month to enjoy fully refined ICE engine Macan before it's no longer offered.

I was interested in the Macan EV for a while. Unless the design of the vehicle is radically different from what we have seen at this point, I am not completely sold presently.

Also, after having my PCM replaced FOUR times in 3 years because the navigation keeps going out, I suspect there will be a lot of electrical gremlins and software problems for several years after launch. I enjoy the driving dynamic of my Macan GTS but really thinking hard about whether to keep this after the warranty runs out.

No hybrid == no ability to do a 1000-mile day == no sale.

Shame, because otherwise I'd be all over it.

Something that has not been published strongly yet is that Porsche plans to stop the ICE Macan in Europe very soon or has actually even stopped production for EU markets. These were the rumors the last time I checked from very credible sources.

This contradicts the announcements that The ICE will continue for 2-3 years - now this stands only for non EU cars.

This fact makes this new EV even more important somehow and needs to sell well to fund the other “interesting porsche line(s).

Some links that confirm what I heard. ICE macan will be stopping in EU for safety reasons:

I don't think I'd want a electric Macan. If Porsche follows suit with the Taycan, they'll figure out what's the best performance they can get out of it and sell that as the top-end spec for the Macan, and nerf the rest in stages so that they have a reason to upsell people.

I had a base Taycan as a loaner not too long ago and the performance was surprisingly disappointing. The base simply didn't feel quick - and especially not "electric quick".

I'm skeptical about us all driving EVs one day. I don't think it's going to happen. The charging infrastructure isn't anywhere near ready (and likely won't be by 2030), battery production / initial charging / disposal is a horribly dirty process through the entire lifecycle, and the net result is that an all-EV consumer vehicle fleet would pollute more than an all ICE fleet, globally. And as we've seen here in the Midwest during this cold snap, EVs suck in really cold weather. And manufacturers are revolting against the notion and have been for a while. The vast majority of people don't want an EV.

I'm on a dealer list for one but I suspect the dealers will be playing games with them and I won't play those games anymore. I'd love to replace my 15 Macan S, that I bought new, with one but it's hard to pay what they are going to want for one vs buying a 1 year old Taycan for 30%-40% off sticker.

I dropped by the dealer yesterday and they had the same Taycan GTS sitting there that they did a month or two ago...

A EV Macan and the new Lexus GX hybrid is the perfect DD combo for us.

Exactly. Buying expensive EVs new is a bimodal game... one that should be played only by the extremely wealthy and the extremely dumb.

If you don't meet either criterion, wait a year and get it for almost half off.

With charging stations failing in sub zero temps in the Midwest creating Tesla graveyards, not a good incentive to buy $100K EVs.

usctrojanGT3 01-18-2024 12:23 AM

I'm excited about purchasing the new Macan EV, can't wait for the launch. :D

Learning that the top model at launch will have 600+hp does pique my interest. My current daily driver is a Tesla Model 3 Performance. It does the job very well for my circumstances. If the Macan EV can do everything the Tesla does with better performance and driving dynamics, I’d be willing to trade up. I don’t need it to be the ultimate driver’s car. I have a 997.2 GT3 and 997 GT2 to satisfy that.
