Job Description : Join the Foundation Engineering team and help us lead Cisco in the implementation and deployment of IOS using Linux infrastructure.

We need a Senior Technical Leader to lead and collaborate on design and development of Linux-based infrastructure software, and integration of IOS and Linux on next-generation Cisco routers, switches, and appliances.

Experience with Linux development is desired. Previous experience developing in Linux for embedded systems is a plus. Previous experience in designing and supporting operating system-level software is a plus.

We are working with business units across Cisco to deliver Linux infra-structure, so the ability to lead inter-departmental engineering teams is required.

Provide technical consultation and leadership of complex engineering projects that are vital to the success of the organization. Work with senior management to identify and investigate key technologies and create product thrust. Initiate projects that will have global impact on Cisco's product lines applying unique or unconventional practices. Establish well-defined technical direction that aligns with Cisco's business objectives. Mentor engineers and provide them with technical guidance on solving new or difficult problems.


Desired Skills:
- Knowledge and prior implementation experience in one or more of the following areas would be considered a plus: Linux, Open Source, IOS Development, Operating Systems, embedded systems, high-availability systems, inter-process communication, system performance


Required Skills:
- Experience with developing software for operating systems such as Linux, QNX, VxWorks or IOS.
- Ability to code in C
- Typically requires BSEE/CS or equivalent, combined with 12+ years related experience

Job Description : Join the Foundation Engineering Kernel Team and help us lead Cisco in the implementation and deployment of IOS using Linux infrastructure.

We need a Senior Engineer to lead and collaborate on design and development for Linux kernel level components, e.g. core OS services, infra services, drivers.

Experience with Linux development, including the use of open source develoment tools like mpatrol and oprofile is desired. Previous experience developing in Linux for embedded systems is a plus. Previous experience in designing and supporting Operating Systems like IOS or QNX would be a plus.

Strong C skills are a must, since coding will done in C.

A knowledge of Open Source Software and Linux desired. A knack of leveraging Open Source software with minimum reinvention is needed.

We are working with business units across Cisco to deliver Linux infra-structure, so the ability to work with development engineers across Cisco as a design consultant is necessary.

Participate on a project team of engineers involved in development of software for the Cisco IOS, and business unit platforms. Requires use of a strong background in SW design, documentation and implementation, on projects that may include any of the following list of responsibilities: Assist Product Marketing in determining how to create features that meet customer requirements. Design applications involving multiple platforms. Design and develop new software product features. Define product internal/external interfaces. Develop complex, multiple modules of code independently. Write complete functional and design specs independently. Write portions of product spec. Lead development of subsystems. Contribute to the development of project goals, schedules, and resource planning. Perform complex unit level tests. Interface with other functional groups (Test, Solutions Architects, Marketing etc.) Evaluate and recommend tools. Define product level test and simulation strategy. Participate in Cisco's Patent Program.

Desired Skills:
-Kernel level development and trouble shooting using Linux.
-Experience in developing OS independent software that can run on multiple operating systems.
-Knowledge and prior experience in Linux development working with different processor architectures, e.g. MIPS, PowerPC and X86.

Required Skills:
-Kernel level development experience in Linux, or embedded OS, e.g. QNX, VxWorks or IOS.
-Development experience in C.
-Typically requires BSEE/CS combined with 3-6+ years related experience, or MSEE/CS combined with 2-3+ years of related experience
