My humble application for membership in HWFMR

Well I figure I have been hanging around here long enough. I might as well throw my hat in the ring. Funny how this forum went from a place to pull GRs strings to a forum with folks I feel I have gotten to know even if only on line. I truly hope to see you guys at a track or two in the near future.

Anyway so I guess one of the requirements I need to meet is giving an embarrassing moment on the track.
This actually happened to me on the very first time I ever drove a car on track.
Some racer friends of mine rented TGPR in Ala. and asked me to bring my car.

So the second or third lap I start hearing this funny sound coming from the rear of the car. I pull into the pit area and the car idles fine and nothing seems wrong.
I go back out and it doing even worse. I come back in and we jack up the back of the car. Now I have to say here that the week before I had just installed new wheels with adapters for spacing. Well smart guy that I am I didn't torque the nuts holding the adapters to the hubs and both sides had come loose.
One of the guys with me said "So basically you went out with loose wheels."

Anyway so after that they started calling me Lugnut . Fitting I suppose.

As for proof of slowness on track I don't have video but I can present you with mylaps lap time at drivers school. Look for #36 on the list here.
http://www.buccaneerregion.org/club/...1_SAT_RACE.pdf
Now I will say that I have done a 1:30 in my car since then so I am a little better but still slow.

I guess my title could be something like Torquemaster or the like. I am also a carpenter by trade as well as doing plumbing, electrical, etc. so I could also be Jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none.

Well there you have it.:to_order:

Bull 12-05-2007 01:10 PM

Team Mal-Adapter?

Director of Mal-adapted modifications?

That is just in case that kiss-ass first paragraph allows him to weasel his way in!

:) Bob, I really wasn't trying to kiss ass there but after rereading it, well...

I was actually sitting there thinking about how this forum and my being here came about. What the hell am I making excuses for. Your the excuse generator.:to_order:

Adrienne 12-05-2007 01:32 PM

Well, you are a very funny guy, and I really do think you would make an excellent teammate. I usually don't give my vote so early, but in this case, I will capitulate, not tarry.

So, to your name: how about Team Jack of no Trades. I like Torquemeister too, considering the story.

Adrienne 12-05-2007 01:33 PM

Wait wait! Do we have a Team Shoe-In???

On second thought...let's not.

Inspector of Nuts

jester911 12-05-2007 01:49 PM

Torquemeister has nice ring. Inspector of Nuts, not so much.:)

DaveM993 12-05-2007 01:50 PM

Manager of Loose Nuts
....

I am sure we can go on and on...

I like - Director of the "Are your nuts loose, let me fix that for you" Department

Adrienne 12-05-2007 02:40 PM

Nutsmeister? Nut inspector? Nutin spector? Jack of Nutin??

If I was officially a member, I'd say that I was on board right up to the point where he said that he was improving. He mentioned that he was able to get his times down to the 1:30's. What the hell? He's going in the wrong direction!

Improving is frowned upon:to_order:

Something about "Team Member in charge of loose nuts" comes to mind.

Team Member and offical nut inspector? (We might want to reserve that title for Milka. Huh?):burnout:

Bonster 12-05-2007 04:40 PM

I tried and I tried, but all I could come up with is "Team Nutjob." :D

kurt M 12-05-2007 04:46 PM

HWFMR nut inspector.

Don't blame me for the better times. It was the car's fault. I couldn't drove it quite as slow because was a 911 instead of a Spec Miata.:)

Bon, I knew I could count on you for a classy team name:banghead:. Thanks.

Bonster 12-05-2007 04:54 PM

You thought that one was bad? Eheh . . . I just thought of another one -- Team Nutcracker . . . you know, since it's the holiday season and all.

mglobe 12-05-2007 07:14 PM

Lefty Loosey?

DaveM993 12-05-2007 08:29 PM

Food Angel 12-05-2007 09:42 PM

OMG--Righty Tighty...That is funny.

mglobe 12-05-2007 09:57 PM

For what it's worth in the team's deliberations, I've always found Jerry to be a funny guy with the kind of self-depreciating sense of humor we admire.

Bull 12-05-2007 10:05 PM

"I would be proud to have him as my wingnut anytime"!

Mike in Chi 12-05-2007 10:26 PM

And I think we'd all rest better if VR's nuts were inspected regularly...

DaveM993 12-05-2007 11:05 PM

that is a 'visual' I DID NOT need.....

I have no problem with that as long as I get to use my special vise grips with the 10' handles.:to_order:

Katie, it is funny you say that. My nickname came from the days of my first computer. It was a Commodore 64 and I ended up with Jester on some early bulletin boards because Top Gun had just come out. Because of my first name it stuck.

I don't know Bull. That sounds more like a doctor's tool. Besides that I'm not that good working with really small objects.:icon501:

Bonster 12-06-2007 01:19 PM

In his college days they called him loose lefty. :)

jester911 12-06-2007 01:25 PM

What can I say. My right hand man is Lefty. And don't call me Lucy or Shirley.:)

Shirley, you jest...

jester911 12-06-2007 01:58 PM

Okay, since I admitted to the loose nuts I figured I would give a good explanation of why I didn't want to tighten them down too much. Obviously it was to keep from having to go to extreme measures to get them off like the guy in this article.

kurt M 12-06-2007 02:34 PM

I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous.

Cigarette? Yes, I know....

Mike in Chi 12-10-2007 12:15 AM

Had to drive down to Salt Lake. The whole way I had this feeling I forgot something...

Got back and it hit me. there was something I needed to do.

Congratulations to the newest member of the Team -- our own "Lefty Loosey"

Way to go Jerry

jester911 12-10-2007 06:57 AM

Thanks Mike. I will try to live up (or down) to the title.

The article reminds me of why I left Washington State! (I really did leave of my own free will...).

Bull 12-10-2007 08:38 AM

Welcome Mr. Loosey!

Now we need a "Righty Tighty".

kurt M 12-10-2007 08:46 AM
