With any kind of track activity, there are various levels of risk. MPSC2 with standing water is more risky than a regular summer tire like PSS.

I'm with you Martin.
Way too much at stake to go 1/2 speed (yawn)
This is not F1 nor WEC nor IMSA (hell even NASCAR doesn't race in the rain)
I have enough "car control" skills driving in 12" of snow and ice every other day in the northeast.
In the words of my esteemed Ortho classmate "When it rains, I go to the bar".

I carry Lockton right now, BTW but will switch to Open Track once I semi-retire next year and have more time for more important things , like the "track bucket list"

I have used Lockton and have no complaints... Will also look into "On Track" as i've heard good things as well from friends. With that said i refuse to track a $100k car without any type of insurance. It's simply not worth it.

Glad to hear your OK.

Thanks for the comments and well wishes! Thumb is wrapped, but will be fine. I went back over the video of the prior laps, and I believe the speed I estimated was about right (mid 70s). And there was some sort of blip noticeable on the prior lap - as I passed by that closed entrance to the North Course, the g-meter on the PTPA video did a quick left-right jog. I am not sure I even felt it.

It also looks like there *could* have been a small steering input in that position on the course. On the prior lap there was some steering input just slightly after passing the closed entrance, so could have started that a bit earlier on the lap with the spin.

So at this point it seems I could have lifted and/or had a small steering input at the wrong time (while passing thru standing/running water).

Sway bars were medium-medium and tire pressure was about 29f/33r. Camber was -1.7f/-1.5r. Ambient air temp in 50s I believe. Aero is stock set at maximum (no spoilers front and max angle in rear).

The plan is to transport car back on Tuesday to a shop. VIR has the Pirelli World Challenge event this weekend, so they were too busy to help me retrieve it until then. They were nice enough to put it behind locked gates, so should be fine over the weekend.

Sorry to hear about your incident.

I have a HPDE this weekend. I usually don't buy track insurance but it's going to be wet this weekend and your story motivated for me to do just that - I used Lockton in the past but I went with RLI this weekend. It was 100 dollars cheaper with a lower deductible.

What is RLI?

I'm interested what USAA will do. I was insured by them for like 40 years, but when I had an on-track incident (which was then covered under the policy), they cancelled me unless I agreed not to track the GT3 any more. I offered to get separate on track insurance and give them a release, but they declined. I thought that was an ill-considered decision on their part since I moved all of my other coverage as well as the auto policy and they've missed out on 10 years of premiums. Maybe their policies have changed since then

Wrong conclusion, this was not the cause for this but rather the result.

Thanks

Shouldn't that wheel be bent but not broken like it appears in the picture? I have only very rarely seen a broken wheel.

The wheels are cast. A cast wheel doesn't deflect very much before it breaks.

OP said he hit a barrier due to loosing control after hitting standing water. So being too quick for the conditions was the cause. Once you hit something, all kind of strange things can happen.
