Same experience here. My E90 M3 did 35 or so trackdays with nary a hiccup. The aftermarket BBK was a must, but otherwise it was bulletproof. Just ran through brake pads, tires and gas like crazy.

s2k is probably the most reliable thing. However I think most cars overall you listed are going to very reliable in the grand scheme of things. Sometimes things break no matter what. These aren't military aircraft. They don't get 40 hours of maintenance for every use hour. Besides when you go on a forum you're bound to see all the issues others are having. That's half the point of a forum, to talk about issues and find solutions for your hobbies. I do competitive PC overclocking and water cooling, and the parts are very reliable and solid. For 99.999% of users the parts may as well be lifetime; however if you spend 5 minutes on any of the forums you will find 30 folks saying XYZ is broken or not working, the OEM needs to issue a recall, quality has gone down, they aren't who they used to be, and blah blah. These same folks forget that they are less than 1% of the part/unit sold. But it's easy to forget that when things go sour for you. I mean hell I am guilty of it. But ultimately I think it's best to enjoy your toys/hobbies. Numerically you likely didn't get a GT4 with bad strut towers or transmission. And if you have poor luck ......you have some friends here to chit chat with about it and a dealer network to help you.

many track days on my 997.1. only 'fix' prior to track use was diff and coolant pipes. other than that rock solid reliable. and compared to BMW, Vette, runs HARD on hot desert heat, 105 ambient is no issues, and that's a huge thing for us - buddies get 2 laps, i get a session, with the AC on.

not a cheap car to track, but has been SUPER reliable.

It depends, I guess. Last year we had two or three blown S2000 motors in consecutive events. OTOH, I doubt they were anywhere near stock.

Very odd... i had well over 10+ track events on my 2008 S2000 and not a hiccup. I have many other friends with even more track events and no issues.

Factory forged internals... the car is bulletproof.

BBK, coilovers, solid subframe&diff bushes, and decent tires will make an animal out of the E9X M3. There's a rod bearing issue but I didn't experience it in the 86k mi and numerous CA trackdays.

I also tracked an e36 M3 from new (ED) until it was sold at 155k mi. Zero issues with that one as well.

worry free? here you go.

What car can you track with reasonable maintenance and cheap engines and transmissions to replace? Every car and everything on a car times out. If you track it enough.

My conclusion is that its probably something slower than what you really want. Better to get a track car AND a street car.

No mention of BRZ/FRS or gen 1 boxters. I don't have any useful insight here just surprised not to see these cars mentioned.

BRZ/FRS aren't designed for the track and do need some work to be track ready.

I'm just surprised to see so many people mentioning S2000's as here a lot of them which were tracked blew engines (I had three friends that got a new engine under warranty), I assume that there was something different about the american engines as they didn't have a good reputation for a track car here at all. Modified they were fine though.

986 Boxster is less reliable than 987.2 in my experience. M96 engine can suffer IMS failure (maybe over hyped though). Oil starvation with sticky tires is documented. SPBs can use a pressurized accusump. I'm currently having some power steering heat issues with 04 S. Can be a fun car but needs some work to be reliable.
