Mine was a January 2015 build and I received it the 3rd weeks of March...so it took about 2 months. So, I'm guessing the build date on the car of interest is a February 2016 build.

Thank you for answers. I have read entire thread but have a few questions.
1. Do we really believe that there is an isolated cluster of build dates that are affected?
2. Did the gear design change at any point. My understanding is that ALL GT4 3rd gears are the same?
3. There are reported failures in 718 Cayman, 981 Cayman and Maybe 981 Spyder

Sorry for asking similar questions nut Im just trying to be clear about this problem

While I've certainly been wrong many, many times, I believe Porsche is not going to let owners incur an egregious expense like this transmission replacement outside of the warranty period, for no other reasons than the optics and customer good will. .They almost always stand behind their products with large and known failures like this one.

2--Yes, there was a change (that others can explain because I can't)
3--I've heard of a few but not many

Best advice: Ask your Porsche dealer.

Very few 2015s AFAIK and not clear to me when late 2016 starts. As a practical matter, there weren't many made after June/July.

Great info. I assume "Most" of 2016 is probable affected.
Most of the cars I have looked at for sale are all 2016 builds

on 10/19/2018 I reported a third gear failure in my 2017 Boxster 718S (Engine mfgr date 12/2016). Porsche replaced the transmission with a re-manufactured one. It took about 5 weeks because the transmission had to come from Germany. The new transmission never felt quite right. I only drove the car about 5 times since I got it back in mid November but the shifting from 1st to 2nd had lost its smooth, almost effortless feel. It became clunky with three "clicks" between 1st and 2nd instead of one fluid movement. Shifting to the other gears still felt normal. I mentioned this to the service manager when I picked up the car but my concern was dismissed. I wanted to drive it a few more times to verify this new sensation in the shifting when the transmission failed. This time the failure was 1st gear and reverse. I didn't put 500 miles on it since the last transmission repair. It is being towed into the dealer tomorrow. Will report back what they say about the car.

You'll be fine, multiple replacements was before Porsche discovered what the real issue was. All new replacements have been sorted.

Howdy,

Sad that my reason for registering is because of a transmission failure (long time lurker). This is a Cayman GTS. Owned since new... One weird variable is that I just shipped the car to Germany from the States... This was the second drive I had gone on since arrival. 3rd gear felt a bit funky when I picked it up, but I attributed it to the fact that it had been sitting for 3 months or so. Also thought maybe one of the handlers handled it roughly in transit... but it sounds like my issue falls under the known transmission issue. I was accelerating hard in third and then no more gear. It will be interesting to see what the German dealership has to say tomorrow. I will report back if its anything interesting.

I have a very early built GT4. Production date was June 15th 2015. Delivery was back in August 22nd 2015.

Are these early production GT4 affected? I have checked the Porsche link where you enter the VIN to check for recall. Did that and it shows no recall.
