Feel free to either PM me or post in this thread with the following info:

Username - so we know who is who...can keep this private and off of the spreadsheet if preferred, if not a Rennlist member, use initial and geographic location

Date of manufacture - info can be found on data plate on the driver's door jamb, month/year. Can also get exact day/month/year from the certificate of authenticity if you have it.

Total miles

Number of track days

Estimated track miles

The failed gear - who knows if anything other than 3rd will go

Brief recount of the failure - a quick sentence so we know what was going on when it occurred

Tires - thinking more stock dunlop's/michelin's vs. trofeo r's, hoosier's, etc...

Other relevant info - Ie. modifications, etc.., if not a GT4 describe your car (Spyder, Cayman S, etc...)

Let me know if anyone has any suggestions as to what other data points we should be tracking/if I should remove any of the others.
Just out of curiosity, is this database just American cars or world wide ?
All failures seem to be 2016 builds.

Another one to add to the database:
Username: cmosman
Date of manufacture: 01/2016
Total miles @ failure: 14565
Number of track days: 30
Track miles: 2,801 (per log book)
The failed gear: 3
Brief recount of failure: Upshift 2-->3 at Hallet, OK circuit. A little, short shudder in the shifter and wheeew, 3rd is neutral. All other gears fine. No warning.
Tires: Kumho PS-91 (running in PCA white group_
Other relevant info: No mods to drive train. Installed clubsport strut tower reinforcement plates & Tarret adjustable rear control arms. All stock otherwise.

Drove the car back from OK to TX (200mi+) below 3000rpm, without incident. The car went to the dealer's shop the next day and was returned 11 days later with the 981.300.020-CX transmission. All is fine.
Looking forward to more GT4 enjoyment. Service advisor stated that as of 05/08, there were 11 transmissions in stock in US and 4 in CA. They are prepared.

I had 0 overrevs before the event, but likely a few range 1's from the gear letting go. Didn't ask them to read-out, but might during one of the upcoming tech-inspections. ;-

Sounded just like mine... and my DME still looks tight. No worries.

What tires do you run (or were you running at the time of failure)?
Glad you experienced a quick repair!

3/16 Build, 6/8/18 failure, 6,685 miles, 6 track days (combined with first owner), 3rd gear, on the highway @ 70mph down shifted from 4th to 3rd properly rev matched. Stock MPC2 tires and no power mods. At least 3 weeks for the tranny to arrive.
There's a bulletin posted for this with Porsche service now, so the assessment of the failure was painless.

Having a bulletin to reference will help make this quick - glad to hear.

Also, updated the database with the last few reports. Looks like the database shows about 82 GT4's have fresh/reliable 3rd gear tranny's!

Do you have detailed info regarding the service bulletin? If so, perhaps it would be helpful to the members to know the bulletin number and any other details.

Only Porsche Service Advisors would have access to the actual document. I just been told there's a service bulletin regarding the 3rd gear failure and they'll order a new tranny. Service bulletin doesn't mean recall, it's a fix as needed type of deal.

It is confirmed by my service advisor that a batch of GT4 tranny had partially welded 3rd gear rings. The replacement is fully welded and should be stronger.

Those who had double and triple failures was probably before they recognized the issue.

6/16 build
10 track days or so
53xx Miles

Gear went out at COTA. Dropped off the dealer 6/4/18
Finished replacement 6/14/18

Yes I had all types of mods and bolt-ons. But my dealer doesn't care since they installed it all

As stated above, there is a service bulletin and replacement is single solid piece not welded.
Very painless process

Default 3rd gear went

08/16 build
Happened at Porsche Sport Driving school event at the Nurburgring on June 11th, 2018
7.800 mls (12.600 km)
5 trackdays (approx 1.600 mls)
Tyres: Michelin PS 4S (OEM were Dunlops that were not impressive when very warm, lasted only 4.500 mls)
3rd gone when shifting up from 2nd, coming out of Adenauer Forst on Nürburgring. Experienced a light shudder when releasing the clutch, knew what it was immediately...
Called dealer in Copenhagen who will need to verify the problem before changing the box, going in there tomorrow morning.
Porsches own mechanics at track event said that I could drive it back to Denmark without problems. Opted for that rather than having it towed to nearest dealer (Bonn) which would have meant me travelling back to pick it up when fixed.
Slot at dealer for the exchange is booked for June 29th, providing they can get a box.

Cvinson
03/16
5600 miles
2 with me, but purchased from a PCA instructor at 4000 miles, so total track days unknown.
3rd gear failure
Shifting from second to third on track on a short straight. Lost power immediately (as if was in neutral). Dash alternates between 1/5 gear. No sound/bumps/etc.
Stock PSC2 tires

Calling dealer (Porsche Prestige Montreal) tomorrow and will update when I know how they will handle it.

Tranny arrived 6/20. Completed the swap by 6/27. Dealer also replaced the shifter cables since they were cracked.
New tranny feels very tight on shifting, in a good way. Will require time to break in the new syncros to loosen things back to the way it was (I'm guessing).

I know this is a GT4 forum, but the same thing just happened to my stock 2016 S. Car's been dropped off at the dealer today, here's the details:

Username - ettenw

Date of manufacture - June 2016

Total miles - 11,100 miles

Number of track days: 12

Estimated track miles: 1500

The failed gear - 3rd

Brief recount of the failure - Upshift from 2nd to 3rd on back straight at Mosport 7/21/2018. Of course RPMs shot up immediately with no load. My ODBII data log showed max RPM was 7013 at about that time (but sampling rate is only every 1 second, so ?)

Tires - Continental street tires

Other relevant info - Cayman S, no modifications. I've done about 150 track days in a number of different cars, been driving manual transmission cars for 53 years and NEVER had a transmission failure.
