The dealer will charge you for the R&R in that case.

3rd gear failed on my GT4 last night. Shifted into 3rd at 6K rpm, then the revs climbed to near redline, and dropped to idle. During this the dash flashed 1st and 5th gear. There was no pop or grinding, but just a disengagement.
9,500 miles and no track time.
No modifications.
6/16 build
Dealer ordered the 1 remaining transmission sitting in Atlanta.

Is this 3rd gear replacement suitable for road only cars ? In other words, would it sound distinctly different when compared to the other five original OE gears in a Cayman 718S?

they make a bit of noise. We have only sold them to GTB class Club racers so far. It’s the gear they always wear out. No GT4 street sales to date.maybe if you start a new thread asking some of Sharkwerks, BGB and other shops’ customers can remark about the noise of our gears. I don’t notice them anymore but you should get outside input on it. It won’t matter that the ratio is different. Noise will be the same.

Busted my today at Laguna - car shuttered briefly after shifting into 3rd then nothing. I plan on taking it to Porsche of Stevens Creek tomorrow. I haven't talked to them yet so no idea how long it will take to replace, hopefully not long I got another event planned in a month.

That sucks, sorry to hear that. How many miles did you have and what was your build date?

The dreaded spring 2016 builds...I think they're all bound to fail sooner or later.

Get well soon! (Mine took about six weeks last Aug/Sept.)

What’s the chances Porsche will issue a service bulletin and extend the warranty beyond the 4 yrs / months?

So it looks like 2015 year builds have been ok? Looking to buy next summer and learning as much as I can.

Not sure of the EXACT bad-tranny window, but certainly includes builds from Mar. - June 2016, and could expand beyond those dates.
