Porsche Track Precision + RAM mount = Fail
I wanted to give the Porsche Track Precision App and did some research here and found that most people seem to use the RAM-mount to keep their iPhone in place. So I decided to get the ram mount with the X-grip. On the day everything seemed to go just fine and it kept my iPhone 6s Plus in place. However, once I returned home the footage was extremely shaky. It seems like it picked up every little vibration from the tarmac and it rendered the footage almost unwatchable.
So, did I get the wrong parts? Did I not install it properly (sitting on the windshield) or is my iPhone 6s Plus too heavy for the xgrip?
Any similar experiences?

Some of the shakiness is probably just the nature of the iPhone. It has a rolling shutter, and that will make the picture shake at track speeds all by itself.
Also, the x-grip probably isn't the best mount for the phone. Look for one that the phone clips into. RAM made the one I use for my 5S, they probably make one for the 6S.

Thank Bill, I'll look into the clip, or maybe have a go with an old iPhone 5 that I have laying around which maybe could work a bit better the X-Grip.

I'd suggest using this RAM mount:

I've got the same setup - except I'm using an iPhone 6 - and it works really well. The video quality is very good and I can see the effect of the iPhone's video stabilization feature. The 6S Plus has even better stabilization so it should work well for you too.
Also make sure you're using version 1.6.1 of Track Precision as it includes bug fixes for some video problems. In fact, try that first before getting a new mount. I found version 1.6's video almost unusable.

I've had good success with the Amazon Basics mount. Plus it's really cheap.

I have the X-Grip RAM mount and it has a fatal flaw for this application. While it grips the phone tightly, the whole X-assemble will rotate slightly in the mounting head. Consequently, any hard driving will have it moving hither and yon, with all the attendant vibration you notice in your footage.

I really liked the data, and the app ran flawlessly during the entire day. I connected it to a Dual Skypro GPS Receiver XGPS160 and the accuracy was consistent and good.

Can someone confirm the latest and possibly only Android app is 1.6? That's all I can find on the app store and it's certainly not the most recent version. Maybe Porsche is only focusing on iphones. Bastards.
