Default AP 2 pc Rotors + Ferodo D1.11 = Awesome!

Decided to try out the AP 2 piece rotors and Ferodo D1.11 pads on my GT4 as my Endless ME20's were near done in front. I also had some odd rotor wear from the ME20's that will probably require turning the OE rotors at some point if I want to reuse them. The ME20's are a really great pad but I found they started to lose their initial bite as they neared the end of their life. This is not dissimilar to my experience running Pagid pads where they seem to "cycle out" or whatever you want to call it.

I ordered the pads and rotors from Clark at Apex Performance and received the usual awesome service. The parts showed up quickly and on the car they went. I did a quick bedding and immediately could feel the bite. They don't have quite as an intense initial bite as the ME20's but they feel more linear in their overall bite (which I like a lot).

I ran the setup at an open track day at Thunderhill last Friday and did close to 200 track miles and never once had any fade whatsoever. No matter how hard I pushed the brakes, they just stopped consistently over and over. Really like the overall feel of the pads even better than the PFC08's I ran for years on my GT3.

Usually when I've looked at 2pc rotors, the breakeven point for changing from OEM is several rotor swaps. Given how expensive the OE rotors are and the cost of the AP's (both nearly identical), it seemed a no-brainer to make the switch to a better rotor for the same money. Overall very happy with the setup and purchase.

Thanks for the feedback. I am considering the same setup and agree Clark is awesome. How is the squeal on normal roads?

Sweet. Glad to hear your impressions are similar to mine. Ds1.11 are good all of the way down to the backing plate. I learned that the hard way....

Squeal is not as bad as PFC08 on street. In fact they are a much quieter "hisssss" vs metallic screech.

I'm loving the DS1.11. Three days at COTA in the brutal heat, T12 was never a problem.

Thanks, I ran PFC 08 on my old E92 M3 and that was absolutely crazy trying to drive slowly and coming up to stoplights. Was hoping to avoid that experience.

Did anyone ever get the stock pad to fade? I haven't on 20-30min sessions even at Laguna which is brake heavy. Perhaps I'm driving too slow

But I don't like the lack of initial bite on the stock pad. So that would be one reason to upgrade. Do these pad last longer than stock?

On track they should when compared to the stock ones. Another option you have are the PFC11s and the RE10s. PFC11 are quieter than the DS1.11s, RE10s are supposed to last longer than either but are quite a bit more expensive. Clark at ApexPerformance is a good source for information and purchase.

Yes. Track day #1 at Sonoma. They are fine for getting to know the car but will overheat quickly when you start diving later into braking zones or on a track that's hard on brakes.

An added benefit to the Ferodo DS1.11s is that they throw off a fraction of the dust of the OEM when left in for street use. Noise levels on the street are not much more than OEM pads. Looks like the Ferodos are winners and given the great service I received from Clark at Apex, I suggest calling him first!

FWIW I haven't used the PFC 11s, but over the years I ran PFC 97s, 01, 06, & 08s . All generated copious amount of brake dust that once wet, would have to be scraped off the wheels after they dried off! Really nasty...

I can answer that. I'm running PFC 11s, and had no problem cleaning the wheels after my last DE. It drizzled during one of my sessions and then rained hard on the 1.5 hour drive home. The car then sat for almost a week before I could wash it. After washing the car, I used the same car wash solution and wash rag to wash the wheels -- the dust washed off with the normal amount of elbow grease (same as with the stock factory pads).

This was the second DE on these pads, and they have worn less than 1/8". I estimate I'll be able to get at least 2 more DEs out of them before I need to think about replacing them. Another benefit of the PFC 11s is they are much quieter than the stock pads for driving around on the street.

I ran the PFC 11s on my old car and will run them on this car. Great pad.

All my customers that have gone from PFC 11 or PFC 08 to Ferodo DS1.11 have not gone back to PFC.
Not one that I am aware of.
PFC makes good pads but there are very attractive alternatives.

Just installed the Ferodo DS1.11 on my Cayman. I found an empty highway east of town for the bedding in process. Tried to follow the recommended procedure of 25 - 4 sec. braking starting with 50% pressure. Never made it to #25. Maybe 15+ before smoke started to pour out of the rear wheel wells.
Curious what kind of bedding in you guys are using for these pads?
Thanks

Weird. I never had smoke. 25 sounds like a lot though for brakes that are brand new. I drove them on the street for a while and did a few progressively longer 50% pressure stops, but not 15. They have been great with even wear and performance.
