GT4 lithium ion battery option . . . any takers?
At $2300, Porsche offers an optional 40 amp hour lithium ion battery to replace the stock 70 amp hour battery. Claimed weight savings is a substantial 29+ pounds! Aftermarket cost for this battery is $3500 at a renown southeastern Porsche dealership so this factory option price appears to be really attractive.

Anyone have experience with this battery yet in their GT4 or GT3?
Is there anyone besides myself that would like to have Porsche offer this battery at $2300 as an option in their Spyder? Has anyone brought this up with PCNA or Porsche AG and gotten an answer?

I had one in my Ariel Atom and it worked perfectly.

Thanks for your experience and perspective with your Atom/LiOn combo, but . . .
My questions specifically regard the newish Porsche LiOn battery offering. I'm simply not interested in feedback or opinions on the variety of aftermarket battery offerings that are out there catering to super light weight, non OEM case format, low amp hour, race oriented applications. That's because other threads here on Rennlist have addressed such LiOn battery concerns with some diligence which is just fine, but I want to know more about this Porsche battery.
So let's get back on track. I still seek pertinent responses to my original questions.

Well, excuuuuuse him all to hell. You must be a fun guy to hang out with:
Blu RS: What's your take on the Fed's current fiscal policy, especially in light of the downturn in the stock market, coupled with low oil prices and the European refugee crisis?
DeerHunter: Holy Hell! Did you just see that naked chick run by with her hair on fire, being chased by a gang of pre-schoolers carrying fireaxes?
Blu RS: Dammit DeerHunter! I asked for your opinion on our fiscal policy, not about whichever shiny object catches in your peripheral vision.

I ordered the Lightweight battery in my GT4 and my previous GT3RS cars. I also did radio delete. not that the weight will make that much of a difference for my driving but I think the whole ethos of this car is light and fun (on the track) so I am maxing both out in my spec.
you should be able to drop it straight into a spyder worst case scenario but I think they cradle size is modified from factory when you have the LI battery ordered.

Thanks C.J. for sharing your rationale on getting the Porsche LiOn battery. I agree it's a cool factory option too that would help bring even more "lightness" to a Spyder.
Hadn't seen any info yet though that the case size would be so different as to require some additional special parts or modifications in the GT4/Cayman/Boxster mounting cradle. I do know this is the newer Porsche LiOn battery that's got a larger case size than their previous version. Those differences show up if you look at the two different Porsche LiOn battery offerings on the Suncoast online parts section. That parts section also shows that Porsche now offers what appears to be a newer version of their battery charger that has a specific setting to deal with the LiOn battery.
Perhaps someone else has already taken delivery of their GT4 with this LiOn battery can clarify whether it has a special mounting cradle/apparatus?

to me, it seems like one of the best value weight droppers out there. Considering what people spend for wheels, carbon parts, or titanium exhausts. I know wheels are unsprung weight, but still....29#'s is a lot.

Since most Americans are overweight wouldn't it be much easier and cheaper to just adopt a new healthy, active lifestyle and drop the pounds that way, and save yourself $2,300.

I think people spend on exhaust for sound and power increase also. For wheels it is unsprung weight, so has a much larger effect.

Wouldn't it be easier still to have the 'other half' adopt a new healthy, active lifestyle? I'll at least ask her before I spring for a new battery...
