I'm curious if anyone has had decals or stripes on their car and then removed them and had a "ghost" effect where the paint faded unevenly?

I had never thought about that before but a friend with a new (to him) Cayman S had some stripes applied along the rocker. The car is black and the stripe/logo is matt black. It's subtle and I think it looks GREAT! But he said he wasn't sure and just trying it out, and he would make a decision soon because he didn't want the paint to fade "around" the decal.

I wonder how long it takes for paint to fade to the point where you'd see the outline of a decal/stripe/logo

I'm not surprised to hear that. Strong adhesives used on the certain vinyl could have slow chemical reaction with the clear coat especially under heat and sun exposure (UV). Just like bird poops if you don't clean them soon they could leave marks on your clear. That said, some vinyl may be better/safer than others. One more reason to pick a design and stick with it so you don't have to take it off ever!

Satin black is the right sheen. Maybe add black mirror wrap to match?

Weird. Orientation looks fine with what I posted from my iPhone initially. At least what I see from my end. May be something with the server. Thanks for fixing it for other viewers.

They used the same satin black vinyl material as the air intake, just cut it to size. Voila.
