Default RS3 vs 718 GT4

So I've been waiting for the 718 GT4 for quite some time. It looks like a good upgrade but evolutionary as predicted. However the price is definitely a big upgrade.

Currently for my daily I'm driving an '18 Golf R. Which is fun but slightly boring.

I've loved the Audi turbo 5 banger since the '12 TTRS.

So here is the question I pose to you all:

1) Keep my 981 GT4 and spend ~40k to get into a DD RS3

OR

2) Keep the Golf R for DD, get the new GT4 and trade the 981. For roughly 45-50k (depending on options)

I'm leaning toward #2 because of GT4 FOMO, but I'm also concerned the new Gt4 won't sound as good as the 981.

I would have created a poll but can't figure it out on the phone app / mobile site.

I'd offer option 3. Keep the Golf and the GT4 and put that money you'd be spending for a marginal update into actual investments and be better off down the road.

For me the RS4 may be too much as a daily... perhaps a CPO M2 or even m235/240?
And spend the rest on mods for the GT4.

thanks for looking out for me financially. But I'll be ok.

In that case I should really sell the gt4 and the golf for a mid nineties camry if you really want to get sensible.

No you missed the point. If Porsche had rolled out a 4.0L pushing 450hp and 400 ft. lbs. of torque with the improved aero that was lighter than it's predecessor then I'd perhaps say spend the money.Already owning a 981 I just don't see you getting much bang for your buck in the newer car.

I'm really not worried about your finances but in your position that would be the play I would make. If you didn't already have a 981 my answer would be different.

Very personal decision but would go with #2 if the price is not an issue......as for the sound we still have to see how that 718 GT4 sounds with an upgraded exhaust at 8000 Rpms!!!!

The RS3 is also fun but boring. A TT-RS is better and is an awesome DD.

Not sure the new GT4 is enough of an upgrade to give up the current version for.

If I were you, I would hold onto the Golf and either a) upgrade to the new GT4 -- if reviews indicate some big "intangible" handling/fun/sound benefits not shown in the figures -- or b) consider a 991 gen GT3 if you're looking for new kicks?

IMO the ideal daily is 1/2 fun and 1/2 "fly under the radar" (boring) anyway, something you don't mind leaving parked places you'd never leave a GT4.

I sometimes regret selling my Mk7 GTI with PP. It was an ideal DD, and I have a suspicion the MK8 will be made more cheaply and loaded with even more "digital" crap... people will look back fondly on the Mk7.

I would keep the R, put a tune in it ($700 +/-) and get the new GT4.

I was about to pull the trigger on a RS3 - but just did not find the manaul seats to my liking - could not get them low enough - so I got a Golf R as daily - put 38k on it in 13 months since purchase - for the money it is hands down a great option for DD. I recently put a tune on it and that woke it up quite a bit and made it more fun. It is great car for 42K, very versitle and better for daily use than RS3.

I drove TTRS for a weekend, with the electric sport seats and really liked it. But decided for those $ I would prefer to wait for next GT4, in pdk (hoping) and that will be my DD. R will be done by then.

If no pdk, well then RS5 Sportback may be next DD.

The new GT4 will be another step from 981, so if you can get one at MSRP I would buy it - 6 speed or pdk - doesn't matter. I will get one either way.

Tune the Golf R and you'll buy yourself some time and smiles until you know more. My 6mt Audi S4 has the EPL tune and it's a true sleeper. You could go with APR.

I'm surprised by that. Did you floor it? Felt fast to me and the sound is great. I'm leaning on waiting for the GT4 honestly.
