Default 718 GT4 Build Specs - Let's see them

I was going to post this in the “718 GT4” thread but its pretty cluttered with all sorts of GT4 discussions. I wanted to break out a separate discussion on the builds everyone is looking to order and get feedback.

I’m on the fence right now about the 718 GT4 as I have a paid off GT4 that’s perfectly setup (Harness bar, Dundon Headers, Plenum, GT3 throttle body, Tuned, Salter Aero, etc.) My MSRP is $113.5k and its almost a perfect build for me with relatively low miles, 8k. Since I have the top slot at my dealer for ordering a 718 GT4 at MSRP, I feel like I’m obligated right?! hahaaaaaa the first world problems we have. I’m a bit bummed the 718 GT4 won’t have a PDK option until late 2020 as this is how I’d spec it out to eliminate the tall gearing with the manual. I’m also really torn on holding off on the new GT4 with the hopes an RS is released but that likely won’t happen until 2021.

If I decide to part ways with my GT4, here are the builds I’m considering:

#1 Stripper Build - $107,950 (https://www.porsche-code.com/PLK48EB9)
I’m considering building a stripper GT4 as it'll has the lowest depreciation and it’ll be a “track focused” build. Many 981 GT4 strippers with ~10k miles and going on four years old are holding 95% of their MSRP, that’s crazy! It’ll be an adjustment going to a low optioned car but for the lower entry price, it could be worth it. It has the two main necessities that I need, Carbon buckets and Apple CarPlay.

#2 Well Equipped - $121,480 (https://www.porsche-code.com/PLUEZBS6)
This is likely the path I’ll go with the GT4, it has similar options to my GT4 but with steel brakes. Since I’ll be doing 4-5 track days a year, having steel brakes is probably my best bet.

#3 Fully Optioned - $132,960 (https://www.porsche-code.com/PLR4LAW5)
I really love the Miami Blue color but feel its a must to go with PCCB’s since the yellow accents the blue so well. Then if I’m going to spec out PCCB’s, I feel I need the interior to fully match it and that becomes a slippery slope. Spending ~$133k on a GT4 would be a hard pill to swallow as I know when it comes to resale, you’ll lose a lot on the options.

#1 - Stripper

#2 - Well Equipped

#3 Fully Optioned

Digging the yellow! Every color looks good on the 718 GT4

@ 113k for the 981 it must be pretty well equipped. My 981 came in at $115k and similarly specced in the 718 I'm at $130k. Unless there are some options you've found you really don't care for on the 981, I think it's going to be hard to go down in spec so I would skip the stripper and go with one of the two more optioned builds....

... The again I'm easily entertained by things like illuminated doorsills so ymmv....

op, I really like your fully optioned build. MB is a great color for a gt car. plus it seems like an upgrade to your current gt4. the other two builds may not feel that different. Fun problem to have!

Since I'd like to track the car 4-5 times a year, I'm OK passing on the PCCB's. I'll miss the leather dash/door panels with deviated stitching and carbon bits all over but its pretty expensive. I think if it was a car I was keeping long term, it would make sense but I'm banking on a GT4RS to update to after owning this car for 1-2 years.

Current build is $109K...https://www.porsche-code.com/PLXURLM4

I keep floating between $109k and $115k (with Bose, LED lights, gold wheels, and a few other ticks). Fifth at my dealership so hoping to do Euro Delivery mid next year.

Not in the market for a GT4, plan on keeping my GT4 and add a Spyder. However, if I was to buy a new GT4 I would go with a bare essential build this time around compared to my bloated 981. For the way I drive my car, all those other options don’t make sense for m. Illuminated door sills and extended leather on dash look great, but unnecessary.

I would rather have a brighter color, but I love the way gold wheels look on white.

Default 2020 GT4 Build

For me, this is pretty much the minimum build. https://www.porsche-code.com/PLXEKC39

Still happy with my 2015 981 GTS and not thrilled by $60k+ to upgrade after taxes, PPF, and trade value. But, it gets close to even if I also let go of my track toy (Lotus Exige) and its trailer. However, the Lotus running expenses are much lower than a GT4. Tires cheaper and last significantly longer, brake pads similar cost but twice the life, brake rotors similar cost but better life, lap times close to 981 GT4 even though I’m probably 6mph slower on Sebring straights.

First world problem. 😄😄😄

After being advised to get the leather, I'm going with basically a well optioned spec:

https://www.porsche-code.com/PLF66IU4

Debating on Bose (I never listen to music, so all I need it for is maps and/or road trip podcasts) and dials in guards red, but worried they may be difficult to see on track or too much red.

My two cents...

That’s a huge build... what’s another 1k for Bose.

I have the carbon illuminated door sills, extended dash and door leather. I love it but it’s so unnecessary. I would try to see a regular 981 with those and see if you think it’s worth it.

I hate the red dials, very hard to see.

Have you seen the LED headlights vs black PDLS? I prefer the all black of the PDLS. I also think the DRLs on the Regular/black lights loook better.

Thanks for the feedback!

The Bose is 1k for something I will never use :P.

I have illuminated sills in my M2. I must have them in the GT4. The carbon is only $400 difference from aluminum and it's carbon fiber which automatically adds at least 7 horsepower.

I have seen the LED vs Black but only in passing on cars and not up close. I don't like either of the running lights to be honest. The LED is too busy with the 4 points and the black is too pedestrian and reminds me of a base 330i running light. Price difference of $600 for LED so I'll probably keep it.

As for the leather, I'm definitely going to see it before I make a final decision. I suspect it won't be worth it, but I like the idea of the steering column at least since it adds stitching and that's a nice touch back there. The dash you basically can't even see it except from the outside from what I can tell and it's not exactly a place you touch often for the leather to make a difference. Ditto with the door panel.
