CarMax GT4 in CA
CarMax GT4
Has anyone checked this out?
Been for sale for about two months
Keeps getting locked down, then pops up
Indicates people are looking, seeing something bad, and letting it go.

I think you'll like this 2016 Porsche Cayman GT4 I found at CarMax!

wow this also has Ed's bolster protector on it, I am incline to think that the previous owner loved this car! If I haven't bought mine I would definitely be interested to go check it out instead of buying from out of state
Wonder why people pass on it ?
this seems like an okay price. I had to pass on a Sharkwerk modded Agate Grey GT4 from Sacramento but it was also the same price with similar mile... that was a better deal.

Simple explanation: Similar cars at a similar price can be had with a dealer CPO, and the GT4 is no longer a "hot" collector's piece.
It doesn't help that it hasn't been detailed - the alcantara looks really beat on this car, not sure what's on the hood (fingerprints, holograms, bad PPF?). The lining around the frunk's interior looks filthy.
Also the sneaking suspicion that it might have ended up at CarFax because a dealer wouldn't take it.
Maybe the previous owner was one of those Las Vegas "track experience" centers

Car had BMC filter, power package and the transmission regearing done but no exhaust mods. It was very tempting and sounded the the mods I would eventually do. So initially we didn't really care that the warranty is ending in a couple months.
Had the PPI done before test driving the car because it was couple hundred miles away. On test drive, we found the car have low frequency drone and whining noise that's not present from the other GT4s that we drove before. PPI came out clean, the shop that did the PPI wanted the dealer to take the car back to the shop to get checked more thoroughly.
We were then hesitatant because the warranty ends in a couple months, and the dact that regearing would void any Porsche recall of the transmission even though the regearing itself should fix the issue. Also the car had one accident prior, report says only the front bumper was replaced.
Anyhow, the car was sold couple days later and the dealer never took it back to that shopI as he probably had people in the pocket to purchase the car.
This being my first Porsche, I was also recommended to get one with a longer warranty so ended up getting a CPO instead for not much more and have been looking for every opportunity to drive it

My point, the price was known
The condition in photos were known
Multiple people have put it in hold for the past two months but haven't purchased
Meaning something is worse in person, than expected.
Bad DME?
Paint job?
What?

Yes,
Probably a bit lower than market but saved the hassle of dealing with private party... I sold to CarMax
You would be surprised what price they would offer you. In my case I think it was actually higher than what I got at the dealership...

I sold cars to CarMax before. 30/40 min process, you leave with a check and they call you a taxi. Priceless peaceful transaction. Dealers sometime take 2 weeks to send you a check over the mail.

We also sold the car to CarMax and had the best offer from them by a couple grand. Maybe going private would get another grand or 2 but you are also paying insurance, dealing with scammer, time off for inspection and all that...We found the carmax experience pleasant and fair

So have I. What pisses me off is that CarMax will typically pay at least a couple thousand more for a Porsche, than a Porsche dealer. Now if you are willing to haggle with a Dealer, they may reluctantly agree to match CarMax, but I have never seen a dealer initially match the CarMax offer.

I use CarMax to give me an appraisal that seems fair enough to use when deciding if I should trade in or sell privately. Haven't bought one from them, but when they offered extended warranties it seemed like a great deal. https://jalopnik.com/you-cant-get-a-...mor-1655587419
