Default catless header smell

im sure I will get roasted for this, but here we go. I have had cat less headers on more cars than not, never really been an issue before, but I recently went cat less on my gt4 and the smell of unburnt fuel is very strong, suggestions on anyway to improve this or do i just need to live with it (please don't suggest adding cats as potential solution), looking more for suggestions of how to make the garage smell better.

thanks, J

I think that you should have fresh pizza delivered to the garage. I love the smell of fresh hot pizza.

Test drove a friend's with Dundon headers this winter. When I got out the car smelled just like my 68 Cadillac convertible smells after a drive.

yep, cats or smell. I added cats back to a tube-frame race car, just to have the fresh air.

It was my car that NoGaBiker drove. As I recall, he drove it and upon getting out the immediate question was "why does it smell like gas".

You could change to headers with a 200 cell cat. Or you could look at what Dundon is doing where you add the GT3 exhaust and they do the adapter with cats. Which might be what I do. But it does get very expensive.

I noticed this with the recent install of my Dundon’s, but doesn’t bother me much.

I have Cargraphics race headers, no cat. No smells at all. Did you get a tune? Maybe you're running too rich?

No tune here.

This might be a stupid question: if you are running rich, would you get a CEL or the like?

I guess a CEL would be the only way I would know/be concerned of running rich.

Just FYI mine has an FVD Brombacher tune.

Maybe once I get the car out I'll remove the time and see if I get the smell...

Yes, I think that's what I said; I hadn't encountered that smell on an FI car before. It's interesting that some of the other catless responders on here are reporting they don't have it. I wonder if it's something to do with the Dundon tune? At any rate, if I wasn't worried about passing the visual inspection here in Atlanta I'd probably put up with the smell just to have that amazing sound!

Yeah, I sorta agree. While I wouldn't want to have it on a car I go out to dinner with my wife in, that ship sailed long ago with GT cars for me (wife won't subject herself to them! ) and I have a separate detached garage the Porsche lives in so any aroma wouldn't "pollute" the main garage or house. And finally, it always takes me back to the racetrack, where many cars smell like this. I'm still considering...

When I have my cat delete pipes installed on my Cargraphic Sport headers, my car smells like my '69 Camaro did back in 1974. I have a BGB tune installed when I have the cats removed to eliminate the CEL for post-cat O2 sensing and of course for the extra power.

This becomes an issue when you have the car running and not moving, specially if it's not warm up. When I start the car for the warm up I immediately take it out of the garage. Nothing like the smell of Sunoco 100 octane in the morning!
Stop and go traffic will also get some of that smell inside (depending on conditions)....I suggest you close the windows and use the AC.
Once moving this becomes a non issue. I also agree that getting a Tune might help minimize the smell a little bit but you will still get some if the car is stationary.

Once moving it’s a nonissue for the driver, but everyone behind smells the rotten eggs and goes looking for the slammed straight piped Subaru STi.

In in some places removing the cats can result in your car being towed and a big big fine. I would make sure you have all the info.
