Default Should I Sell My GT4 And Get A GT3 or GT3 RS?

I've been looking around and it seems like the prices on the GT3 and GT3 RS cars have come down enough that it's starting to make me think about trading up. I have a perfect GT4 with about 2,800 miles that I absolutely adore, but I wonder if the market is at a place where it makes sense to upgrade?

Should I look more at the GT3's or are the GT3 RS's that much more of a car for the price difference? I assume in the long run the GT3 RS would be the better investment or is the GT4 at a price point where it will outdo them all?

It depends what you use it for? Do you track your car? You don't drive your GT4 all that much, if you only have 2800 miles. Not sure it's worth spending that kind of money if you barley drive it.

For 99.9% of Porsche owners the 100k delta between a GT3/RS and GT4 is not really justifiable imo. Unless you’re a very competent racer with a strong desire for faster lap times or a “social media influencer” I can’t really think of a reason to trade up.

Having said that, if you want a GT3/RS there is no harm in scratching that itch...

If you want the GT3 or RS, I say go for it. I don't really see any of the cars as investments, so I'd say buy what you like if you can afford it

I didn't get to put many miles on the GT4 over the last year and a half because we had a baby and I have several other toys that had my attention, but when I do get some daddy only time I love every mile I put on it! I have plans to track it but I haven't yet because I have a Miata race car and an original Mini with a Type R engine that has taken my limited track days. I love the razor-sharp handling of the GT4 and the sizzle it has even when driving it on the street. It has made me hungry for more GT awesomeness even though I probably don't need it. But, there's no such thing as overkill so I wouldn't mind upgrading if the market pointed me in that direction.

The difference in lap time between my GT4 and a pretty well driven 991 GT3 on the same tires at Watkins Glen is about 1.5 - 2 seconds. If i wanted to spend GT3 money, I'd go for the 718 GT4 Clubsport "Track Day" car.

I have a GT4 and two great friends of mine have a .1 RS, and a .2 GT3, all the cars accomplish very different task. I will say if money was no object I would def go for an RS, they feel the most special of the three cars mentioned. The most accomplished and probably daily driver capable car is the GT3, the rs is a little loud and rough for daily duty, although the PDK makes it more tolerable than a gt4 in rush hour traffic. Honestly I feel like the GT4 is my sweet spot as for the price (mine was just over half the price of the other two cars, very high spec gt3 and RS) and performance goes (delivers approximately 8/10ths the fun). Really the big difference now happens after 7800rpm, don't get me wrong both .2 gt3 and RS cars are sig faster than a GT4 but its not 100K faster, all three cars deliver huge smiles on public roads or race tracks for 99% of people that own them they are far above skill level. Id also consider for that same money delta to add another car like a 993 or an older E30 M3 and throw some headers on your gt4. Or go very special 997.2 RS, that's what my dream is

If you are going to track and have the money you might consider an RS but I would not get it as a street car. As for the GT3 vs the GT4 bottom line is do you want mid or rear engine. I have had a GT4 and it was a great car. I have also had a 2007 GT 3, a 2011 G T 3 and now. 2018 GT 3 the most streetable of the GT 3’s is the 2018 with PDK plus. T is also a great track car and more palatable than its earlier variants . I have not had the 991.2 GT 3 long enough to fully check it out but so far I really like it and glad I got it . It’s a hard decision both are great cars and I think will hold their value good luck and you won’t go wrong with either keeping your GT4 or getting a GT3

RS is the most "special" car but is it really that special? More capable yes, but there are millions of them. I see more .1 RS' than GT4s. Plus if you're talking about an investment, my guess is that you might lose an absolute greater amount of money by buying an RS now versus keeping your GT4. If you want the experience, perhaps that is worth it to you? Id buy it if you feel that you want more car than a GT4, don't care about 6sp or want the RS experience. Otherwise, what really are you standing to lose by keeping your sweet GT4?

Cars are not financially logical decisions, so to me, it really comes down to whether the $40-70k price delta is something you wouldn't blink an eye over. If you have to change your lifestyle, think twice about taking that vacation, or spending the money in some other discretionary fashion that makes life better for your family, don't do it.

Once you get past that barrier, go for it. Should be relatively easy to find a used GT3 to test drive to see if that motorsports engine is something you really want.

All great points and this is exactly why I posted up this question. I really feel that pound for pound the GT4 is tough to beat with everything considered. The GT3 I would be looking for would be 2015 or newer. I have to admit, I have been eyeing a 570S as well. There are some amazing cars out there right now in the $150k range that are awfully attractive.
