Default Grease around air filter seals

What grease do you use around the seals on the air filters? Whatever I am using may as well be epoxy it is sooo hard to get the filters out.

+1 on the silicon grease. BTW, I really like the removal tool Sharkwerks offers. Sure makes it easy to remove the filters.

Not trying to dis anything Sharkwerks does, that is a fine tool. But, you can make one that works very well with two old "L" shaped allen/hex wrenches and two Vise grip wrenches. Just clip the long end of the allen wrench into the Vise grip really tight. Then put the short end of each into the loop on the air filter housing finger holes. Now pull outward on both Vise grips at the same time. The Vise grips give you something to get a good grip on. No need to use your fingers in the two air filter housing holes. Works fine for me, YMMV.

Yes, I was wishing I had that tool (link). I ended up doing something similar. I was scrounging around the garage and ended up finding some plastic chain and using to steel links to tie to the tabs. Like this cartoon:

It actually worked well because the natural pulling direction caused the tabs to unclip themselves.

Cool, thanks! Put them back in this evening after cleaning out the gunky grease I used last time. The silicone is *much* better!

Also, I happened to see my dryer vent cleaner, and the idea hit me to use that down the air intake. It worked pretty well - I just moved it back and forth knocking off some of the crud and vacuumed it up.

Changed out the Air Filters on my GT4 at 10,700 miles today.
The Sharkwerks tool works great!

Had to "tap" the two Torx screws into the new filters first.
They were unable to be threaded initially because the female portion was so tight.
Used Danco silicone grease for the seal.

Yea i took mine out just to inspect so i know what the car does and doesn't need. I was pulling so hard i almost punched myself in the face when the seal popped. I put them back in with just some dielectric grease.

All good tips.

Yes the grease gets fouled after only 5K miles - wipe it up and replace. I used what I had around: Haywood 327 pool o-ring/gasket lube on all the green seals.
The new filters definitely need the screws installed halfway or more and then removed - before - attaching to the duct. The filters are unthreaded.
The SharkWerks tool looks great and is on the list for next time. Made do with a martial arts belt threaded through both tab holes.

One of these "cones" went missing from the panel that goes across the water and oil filler holes.

But then I looked around at a couple of those side panels that go into the trunk and they looked like they were missing 2 "cones" each.
Cant believe I couldnt find them. Maybe they didnt get put on (in the first place) at the factory. Who knows.
I ordered them from my local stealership.
$2.31 each.
