Replace manual transmission WJ88 Feb 08,2019

Description
A 6-speed manual gearbox, in which the durability of the gear wheel for 3rd gear cannot be guaranteed over the entire service life of the vehicle due to the high performance characteristic of the drive train, was installed on the affected vehicles.
Remedy
the transmission must be replaced by an optimised transmission with reinforced gear wheels.
------------------------------------------------------------------

Called my dealer and they said the replacement gearbox was ordered a few days ago. They will be letting me know when to bring my car to carry on with the job which could take 1 or 2 days. It seems that the limited slip diff will be replaced as well as is part of the g'box assy.

Hope the above info helps... last bit: our warranty period over here is only three years so most cars are out of it.
wow good news

If this recall is indeed correct, I wonder if it is to head off before it starts any concern about the transmission in the new car?

i can see all the people saying - you put the same transmission into the new car? Don’t all of those break?

timing seems coincident if true.

That being said, I still don't have a clear understanding if the 2015 builts fail or not. I have heard conflicting info. Is there a consensus on it?

Now all they have to do is warranty the shock towers.... and I can really sleep at night.

I checked on mine and there is no recall notice (at least for now). My car is a March 2016 build.

I think if there was a specific window Porsche would’ve executed the recall earlier, since they would know exactly which cars would have been affected.

Mine is March 2016 , checked as well , no recall yet. Would Porsche not include U.S. for something like this?

I didn't renew mine

Allocation was May 2016 and delivery August 2016
My window sticker shows 4 year or 50K mile warranty

I searched Porsche UK and found some VINs that show the recall and some that don't.

Here are UK VINs for two 2016 CPO cars sitting at dealers that need the recall:

WP0ZZZ98ZGK190579
WP0ZZZ98ZGK189540

Here is a 2015 that does not appear to need a replacement:

WP0ZZZ98ZGK188442

I wonder if Porsche might have traceability via the gearbox vendor to know which ones are bad.

Yep, Orthojoe is the one that told me that my car wasn't "safe" either, thus conflicted if 2015 builds were safe.

One would think they do. Seeing first hand how ISO works, every part should be traceable down to the day it was made and material cert and so forth.

I get a new gearbox on Monday

Already have a BX replacement box, will learn Monday whether the latest is still EX or they moved finally to FX. My dealer told me that even a car on which the replaced the box in December 2018 is part of the recall.

Wow, if this is true, that is really bad. Probably the vendor's fault, but still...

Off topic, but I had a 1990 VW Corrado. Canada recalled the power steering rack for seal failure in very cold temperatures, In Jan 1994, I suffered the seal failure in -26F weather. Went to dealer, showed the Canadian recall, and they called VWoA and denied the claim, stating it does not get cold enough in the US.
